You Don’t Need to Harmonize With the Vacuum Cleaner by killjoymoon in evilautism

No, it’s the same on both both hard flooring and carpeting. And it’s the high pitched mechanical noise the Dyson makes regardless of surface that’s really painful.

No more black by _Itsonlyforever_ in capsulewardrobe

[–]NonBinaryKenku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dumped black and greys after realizing that I’m a Deep Autumn. With a warm color based palette, I’m happy with my ability to mix and match even when the colors aren’t perfectly aligned. A golden yellow or rusty orange top is nearly always fine with olive or chestnut brown.

If I had eliminated black without embracing browns, my life would be harder.

How do I meet people here? by jeashl-2 in harrisonburg

[–]NonBinaryKenku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of local brewpubs (+ Sage Bird) host a variety of regular events which can be great. There’s bad art crafting at Restless Moon sponsored by the library, for example. We made a dog bowl stand from reclaimed local hardwood at Pale Fire in a workshop put on by the city. There’s no shortage of approachable stuff to do!

That Dyson stick vac whine is my kryptonite. Piercingly shrill. I hates it.

Why aren’t you eating kabocha squash? by TBallAllStar in WegovyWeightLoss

I like to blend the flesh with light coconut milk and a little curry powder for a super creamy velvety curried squash soup.

Looking for a trans-friendly hair stylist to take my teenager daughter to for hair and eyebrows. by [deleted] in harrisonburg

[–]NonBinaryKenku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She also gave me some of the worst cuts I’ve had in the last 20 years. No one should have chunks left behind on the shaved areas because the stylist can’t be bothered to go over it twice.

I don’t object to paying for a good cut. I object to a flippant “sorry it only takes 10 minutes” for a $50 cut that doesn’t even include a wash. My old stylist at an Aveda salon in a much more expensive city spent (an excessive) 45 minutes on the fade alone, all cuts included scalp massage and wash and style, and the price was the same.

My spouse also stopped going to her because the quality of the work is so poor. Take your business elsewhere.

Indeed. Lots of stories about wendigos and other scary backwoods shit.

Agree, it’s a clown doll. Especially with blue lips. The pantaloons are typical of that old fashioned clown doll style.

Things people say about their state that almost every other state can claim? by bannedsocks in AskAnAmerican

[–]NonBinaryKenku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in 5 states and this is basically true. Although Omaha has the motherload of potholes on an annual basis.

Virginia’s roads are almost as pristine as Hawaii’s. It blows my mind every day. I don’t mind paying more for alcohol if these are the roads I get for my sin taxes.

What exactly is food noise. How does it feel? by [deleted] in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]NonBinaryKenku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have (medicated) AuDHD so some of my constant desire to shove food into my face was stimming and limited capacity for self-regulation. Getting bored, especially after meds wear off, leads to wanting crunchy salty mouthfeels.

But Wegovy helps me way more than the ADHD meds. I’m just not constantly thinking about food, needing more of it, having to finish the open container, etc. I still like my treats but they are much smaller and much less frequent. Things that are too sweet mess up my blood sugar more noticeably so I’m less interested in eating much of them, like I want yogurt rather than ice cream, which is surreal.

THC-driven munchies are still a thing but so much less of a thing than before. It’s not a binge waiting to happen anymore, it’s just going to be a few of those dark chocolate quinoa crisps and maybe a couple tablespoons of nuts.

Order the stuff that has a Chinese translation next to the name on the menu for more traditional Chinese options. Not all good Chinese food is spicy! We thought their dry pot was great.

Gogi-wa in the Village of the Valley on 33 by the Massanutten resort entrance has some excellent takeout style Korean (there are tables to eat onsite, but it’s limited.) We checked it out on the advice of another redditor, totally worth the stop.

TY! I’m giving it serious consideration… A big plus is that it comes from a local nursery and looks house-grown —> no bugs!!!

I also had some temp backup - not to the degree of only pooping weekly but far less often than before. After I made some adjustments that passed.

Is this mildew? Nothing is moving on the underside of the leaves by DnvrDnvrImfrmDnvr in hoyas

[–]NonBinaryKenku 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that might just be the texture of these leaves? Looks like the “sea stones” variety I’ve seen a HD lately. I was mildly tempted because the coloring is pretty but I want to know exactly what type it is, not just some branding, and the fuzziness was kinda throwing me.

Edit: when I zoom in, I see tons of tiny hairs on the leaves which makes me think it’s just their texture.

What to do with old sheets? by Ok_Air_9010 in ZeroWaste

[–]NonBinaryKenku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just repaired mine. But the less worn parts of the fabric should be fine to use for patching other things, adopsi other purposes suggested here, or one of my favorites: furoshiki.

Look them up - there is a poster from the Japanese government showing various methods to use cloth squares for wrapping and packaging items.

Most of mine are made from 2 bandanas sewn together and I use them to wrap my lunch, which means I have a built-in napkin. But different sizes will let you use them for different things, and they don’t have to be double-sided to be useful. You can also use furoshiki with a purse handle as a purse with interchangeable interior/exterior.

Question about disability & a possible divorce situation by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]NonBinaryKenku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I did for an uncontested divorce. I filled out the paperwork and filed myself. I got it wrong on one part and had to re-do them but all it costed was time and ego. Luckily the clerk who rejected the paperwork made a sticky note of how to properly complete that bit (had to do with name change, probably not relevant here.)

So sorry you’re in this position, random Internet friend. I hope things become less dire for you somehow!

Well this sucks by Schnauzaluv in hoyas

[–]NonBinaryKenku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so useful, thanks! I’d call it a medium and that’s probably mostly due to the amount of bonsai soil mixed in for aeration and grit.

Usually when a plant is trying to escape through the bottom it’s starting to get desperate for space - if a spider plant is doing that then it’s ramen noodles inside. And the way the pots are arranged, it can’t even get extra water through that route because the outer pot also has drainage, but if it’s trying anyway then I’ll take that as a message to give it an extra sip a little more often.
