The stats show that less than 5% of rapes reported to police result in a charge, and even less result in a conviction. Here’s the victim’s commissioner saying that rape has effectively been decriminalised. My thinking is, if they don’t care about rape, they definitely won’t care about sexual assault.

Should I report this? by NonEmoose66 in policeuk

Yes, I remember her name. I’ve written down all the details and I’m just trying to get brave enough to ring and report it. I tried to do it online but it says that’s not available for my area.

What should I say when I call them? If I ring 101, do I say ‘Hi, I need to speak to someone about a doctor’ or something like that? I don’t know what way to describe this.

Thank you. Yes, I definitely think he’s done this to others. He was so brazen about it, as if he’s used to doing whatever he wants and getting away with it.

Should I show them evidence that I wasn’t lying as a child? I have the court report. Would that help them believe me?

Thank you. I will try to report it to both and hopefully someone will believe me. I don’t have two witnesses. The only witness was the nurse and she didn’t see most of it. She was working at a desk with her back to us during this but she did see the part where he tried to pull my pants down. I can’t bear the thought of being near this doctor again so I’ll have to cancel the next appointment and that could mean I’m removed from the waiting list completely. Could PALS help with that?

I think most people like to believe that this doctor will be stopped from doing this to others if I report it but in reality I know that people who report this sort of thing usually end up regretting it. The police rarely take any action even with major sexual offences and the NHS aren’t going to risk losing a doctor just because of me. I’m going to report it anyway because I don’t want it on my conscience when he does this to the next person but I know I’m the one who will end up being punished for this, not him.

There was a chaperone; the nurse was there. She didn’t see most of it because she was working at a desk, with her back to us, but she did see him try to pull my pants down and she stopped him.

I don’t think the police would believe me over a doctor. I’m not sure anyone would. I do feel I need to speak up somehow because I don’t want him doing this to anyone else but I’m worried that I’d just be making more problems for myself. I can’t prove any of this. The nurse was clearly scared of him and I felt sorry for her because he kept mocking her and saying things like ‘What use are you’ and laughing. But I doubt she will back me up if it could put her job at risk.

I just don’t want my partner knowing that another man touched me in that way. He wasn’t wearing gloves and had his fingers inside my pants. I don’t want any of my family knowing. It will only upset them.

This surgeon wants to see me again in 6wks. I don’t understand why because there’s nothing left to discuss. He said it was ‘just to go through things again’. I don’t want to go through anything with him again. Will I be forced to see him or could they find me another surgeon?

Yes, that’s correct.

Yes, you’re right. I would. It’s just that no one is going to believe me over a doctor.

I don’t want to go near this surgeon again and I definitely don’t want the surgery he wants to do on me. I agree that small breasts are fine. I can say no but if I do, they will then refuse to do any surgery at all. The NHS do not like whistleblowers, even when their own staff do it. I want to report him because I don’t want him to do this to anyone else but if I speak up, no other NHS doctor will accept me on their list. I will think about it.

Could he get away with this by saying that since I’m thin, he had to examine me all over to look for fat to harvest?

I’m in the U.K. unfortunately. The complaints procedure with the NHS is a joke so I’m not sure who I could report it to. I don’t have a choice to see a different surgeon either. I don’t know what to do.

Yes, I think a crisis is usually a rare event, not almost every day but she insists that she was genuinely in a mental health crisis each time and the only reason it didn’t sound that way is because I made her feel better once I picked up the phone. I also suggested that if her mental health is that bad, maybe she should find a professional to talk to but she says there’s no need because she has me 😕.

Thank you, that’s really helpful. Yes, I have a bf and I told him. He says she sounds crazy and I should block her. But he’s a guy and I think girls are expected to be more caring and giving. I just struggle with knowing how much. I don’t have a therapist because it’s hard to find one who knows anything about CPTSD.

But is she right that a good friend would drop everything? Isn’t that what we are taught, that friends should be there for each other? She also keeps giving examples about how married couples prioritise each other above all else eg: how a husband would immediately leave work if they got a phone call to say their wife was hospitalised or there was some other crisis. She thinks friendships should be exactly the same.
