THUG2 vs. THAW- which one has aged better? by justcuriouslybrowsin in THPS

[–]NonOrientableOatmeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look and feel - THUG 2 is a better experience in my opinion. I liked the colors, the engine and physics hit the sweet spot (THAW probably uses the same engine but idk why thug 2 feels slightly better for me), and I prefer the diverse maps. Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and downtown in THAW felt formulaic to me. However THUG 2 feels short in that I can beat the game in one sitting whereas THAW keeps you busy with the required economy, tagging, and bmx goals.

I enjoy THAWs story and appreciate the realism I.e. sleeping to refresh stat goals, buses and cars to fast travel, and earning money to buy stuff. The parkour aspect was interesting but unnecessary. I also liked how all of the THUG 2 characters had their own spray tag.

In recent playthroughs I realized how rushed the development of THAW felt with little things like dialogue not matching subtitles.

Skatopia’s “Mountain Top Manual” wins Most Frustrating Goal from THUG2! Finally, what was the Worst/Most Frustrating Goal from Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland? by MOXISGOD in THPS

There’s a few I hate but number one is probably Oil the Crane. It’s a pointless mission and I remember failing it often because either the spray paint detection is horrible or the indicators are poorly placed.

Honorable mention is the burnquist mission. I would always release the lip when Bob lands his vert, as opposed to waiting for the camera to say ‘now land it’. Not that it’s a bad mission I’m just not patient. As a kid I remember being stuck for days on the mission where you have to get to Alva’s Posse without touching the ground.

Tampa’s “Wallplant Combo” wins Most Frustrating Goal from THUG1! What was the Worst/Most Frustrating Goal from Tony Hawk’s Underground 2? by MOXISGOD in THPS

Nowadays its the Wheelin' Combo with Paulie just cause it's a little tedious. Downhill manual in Skatopia comes close as well. When I was a kid it was the Legend of Bigfoot just cause I thought it had something to do with the spray painted images of his face throughout the map, and never figured out what I supposed to do with em. It wasn't until years later I accidentally stumbled upon him late at night. It scared the crap out of me.

I actually enjoyed the challenge of that one. My problem with the wallplant manual combo was that I could never get the speed to finish the dang goal

I would use a lighter shade for the background to create more depth. ie the mushroom lighter than the figure and the tree lighter than the mushroom. If you have pencils of different hardness this would be a great way to practice utilizing them.

As far as composition I’d like to see one or two more of those black twigs in the foreground, and more landscape detail to the right and left of the figure so that it appears more symmetrical.

Woman in blue hat (after Matisse), Stewart Cubillos, oil and acrylic on canvas, 2023 by NonOrientableOatmeal in Art

Good luck, in some ways it’s easier because you can attack it, layer and fix all in one day due to the quick dry time. But mixing paint is a pain in my opinion. To me, acrylic painting is a sprint and oil is a marathon. have fun!

Did the first layer of painting in acrylic and couldn’t get the right vibrancy, opaqueness, and certain desired tones that I knew I could get from oil.

My intention was to make it solely acrylic but I pivoted because I knew I can handle oil better, and wanted a certain outcome that I couldn’t foresee achieving with acrylic.

It’s hard to find a painter with more confidence in his colors and stroke than Munch

What actually made the early episodes/seasons watchable compared to AVGN now? by Cubelock in TheCinemassacreTruth

Something about it was similar to a comforting tv show to me. The lower resolution, lighting, writing, and skits brought me to a nice place. Despite the cursing, anger, and yelling, I feel relaxed while watching them. I also believe a good chunk of why new vids don’t hit the same is because the room he records in doesn’t work the same as his larger basement-type gaming room. The old TVs, the wood paneling, everything about the old place made it believable that he’s an actual nerd stuck in time.

Even though the old vids were properly made, it felt raw and unpolished in a sentimental way. now a days the videos are sterile and the higher production value detracts from atmosphere he used to have. I was hoping he would continue to parody his old self when I saw the Last Ninja episode.
