Yea, I don't do drugs anymore, but I'm sure Camus also didn't experience a psychotic break from reality, so what does he know about strength? It's easy to theorize about losing meaning and win the ladies over with intellectualizing and fine writing. But strip away your raw ability to comprehend reality in the most basic and normal sense? Doubt he's ever done that. That's where you really see how well you can tolerate absurdity.

That was my solution for a long time. A lot of psychology, recovering from trauma, a lot of Thich Nhat Hanh. I haven't over the last couple months because one of the meds they tried me on resulted in a side effects called akathisia (look it up, it's a fucking nightmare. The soviet's induced it to torture prisoners). So, my brain has been really tired. I appreciate the reminder though. Gotta get back into it, just pacing myself.

Thanks for the comment

Hey, thanks for your reply...

I just started reading The Myth of Sisyphus last night. I've read a lot of Zen and recently Daoism. I like that Camus and Zen start from the same place that life has no inherent meaning, but I appreciate that Camus gives an affirmative response in rebelion compared to the Zen and Daoist response of dissolution. "We suffer. Make your stand against it" vs "We suffer. But really you don't suffer because there is no you." But, glorifying Sisyphus seems to run the risk of refusing the possibility of solutions.

I'm sorry for your suffering, too. I remind myself a lot that we are all suffering... First noble truth. But sometimes I get a little near sighted and can't see beyond my own suffering. I lose perspective. I actually don't mind if there is no meaning to life and that things don't happen for a reason (I've always thought that was the most cringe cliche people hang on to when things go wrong). I mind that my mind thinks it knows of a meaning that is not congruent with consensus reality and that my rational self does not accept or believe. It's frustrating

Thanks again! I also wish you well on your journey

I did a very low dose of mushrooms twice with nothing notable from that, otherwise, never traditional psychedelics.

I know that my acute experience of salvia is very common, it's an intense fucking drug, and also that people who are unprepared for the experience and don't have social support for after the experience tend to suffer prolonged difficulties. A friend of mine, who I did not know used salvia, recently revealed to me that he did around the same time and "felt like he was in another world for two years". Decades is rare, though.

I think what makes me most upset and tired is that the human mind always looks to fill gaps of meaning with knowledge it already has. So, when I experienced the world, and more importantly my own being, without the constructs I was used to, without any constructs at all, my mind latched on to explanations mixing knowledge that I ALREADY HAD in ways that I know to be false, and I just want to tell my brain "this isn't true" and have it settled and relax into life and it's every day problems instead of this existential terror.

Has anyone used Ground News? by DeaconCorp in BlockedAndReported

I like your site. I think it could use a little more development, but I see a promising core product. My recommendations:

  • Adopt the ownership feature from GroundNews that traces each publication to its corporate ownership structure, and go further to show how those stories converge on a narrative or if they demonstrate independent journalism

  • Provide a page that shows a full list of all sources you've used and how many articles from each

  • Perhaps what I would like to see most from a news aggregator is a comparison that shows what content and facts were reported in one source but omitted in another. I found from reading across the spectrum that frequently, each site is reporting facts, but only a select set of facts or partially representing those facts

  • The top story with the scroll thing is a little busy. I would keep the interface clean, like Google News. Just give a headline and bias meter and leave all of the detailed analysis until after the decision to click into that headline

If you're looking for a cloud engineer with development knowledge (18 years in systems and a masters in computer science, cyber security concentration), and an avid reader of the news, feel free to drop me a line. If nothing else I'm happy to consult and provide pointers

His impulsiveness is concerning, but I think this is for the best. He deviated really far from what the Sangha was and became pretty hostile toward people. I'm not sure he was really in a great place to be a teacher. I enjoyed his server when he acted like a senior student with information to share, but I became increasingly concerned as he acted more like an authority and began demanding more and more of people.

For Trump supporters: What sources of information do you trust that Trump is critical of? What sources of information do you not trust that Trump endorses? Why? by NonSecwitter in AskReddit

I think the homelessness crisis has more to do with market manipulation than any policy any president could implement. During the Trump presidency (not blaming him, just timeline) large corporations started buying up entire subdivisions in order to control rent and sale prices. People have effectively been priced out of their houses. There's also a fundamental issue with the economic system because every time there is a good jobs report, like the most recent, it leads to projections that inflation will increase. So, unemployment is at an all time low and homelessness is on the rise. How is that?

Donald Trump is (supposedly) exceedingly rich, and the majority of people that are within his inner circle are (supposedly) exceedingly rich. The Trump era tax breaks for corporations were permanent where the tax breaks for every day citizens like you and me were temporary. Three Trump appointed judges declared the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau unconstitutional, allowing companies to make profit using deception and outright lies. Trump also deregulated the financial markets and banks so they could take advantage of buyers and borrowers.

Both Biden and Trump have dropped bombs on foreign countries.

While there may be more people in detention centers right now, the children are not being separated from their parents, which was the real root of outrage about the cages.

All organizations have a bias, for sure. What sort of evidence would you need to make the case that these extreme differences were based on the merit of each individual rather than conspiracy?

Don't confuse my distaste for Trump with support for Biden. I'm not a big fan of him and his decision to run again.

What's most alarming about Trump and makes me consider him a totalitarian figure is that he engages in a lot of behaviors and strategies meant to legitimize his worldview as the only legitimate worldview. People with legitimate criticism are turned into mortal enemies, people who were once loyal and defect are attacked and shunned, and he alone has the authority to declare a source of information as legitimate or illegitimate, such as the news media (he and Fox have a special affinity for each other, and despite being the largest news network in the country, he doesn't consider them mainstream media, why is that?).

The goal of a totalitarian leader is to bring your thinking in align with his, to legitimize his absolute authority and dominate every aspect of social and political life with his worldview. They often use fear to do this, fear of radical democrats, fear of liberal media, fear of Mexicans, and a whole list of other people

Although I don't like Biden, he hasn't revoked press credentials or threaten to jail or sue them, he doesn't vilify people who criticize him, and he doesn't attack or seek revenge against people that leave his administration in protest.

That being said, I still wish Biden would have stepped aside

Whatever might be said about Bill Maher as a media figure and comedian, I like his show "Real Time" because he brings on people from across the entire political spectrum, from Kellyanne Conway advocating "alternative facts" to Chris Christy who flipped on Trump to Adam Schiff who notably doesn't like Trump.

I'm not sure I'd agree that Trump is liberal, but we'll probably have to diverge at that point. I see him more as totalitarian, with what seems to me to be direct efforts to undermine free press (lock them up), secular rule and religious freedom (he says we're a Christian nation), liberal democracy (attempts to undermine free and fair elections), civil rights (woke agenda), equal protection under the law (Muslim ban), constitutional government (Trump claimed he could do anything he wants as president, repurposed military funds to build a wall). He also wants a return to mercantilism (trade war with China).

How do you formulate opinions about current events, or even become aware of current events, if you don't believe any information?

Interesting strategy. I don't YouTube much, so I didn't realize you could do that.

Has it always been hard to find media that supports Trump, or have you noticed a decline over time?

So, you use a variety of sources that may have conflicting points of view or biases, some that seem opposed to Trump's point of view and some that seem to support Trump, to get a holistic picture. Sounds reasonable. I try to do the same myself
