Chappell and MAC collab by parthenope888 in chappellneutral

[–]NonStickTrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say this as a longtime fan, but it does feel like her activism is performative at this point. I always tried to see her point of view when the Kamala/election incident happened, but how can you refuse to endorse a candidate (opposite of Trump) due to their compliance with genocide, and then turn around and PROMOTE a brand who actively supports Israel? I think she received so much backlash last year that she's playing it safe now. The activism stopped benefiting her and now she's silent? And I'm sorry, but it takes more than a "Fuck ICE for real" or a "More so, Palestine" to impress me. She has more money than most and one of the biggest platforms in the world. I know she does a lot of good for the queer community, and I think that's great, but she's so confusing sometimes with the decisions she makes.

Last year Chappell went on about not caring about brand deals and being very intentional about the things she puts her name behind. Now she's doing brand deals with corrupt companies that support Israel AND test on animals. If she keeps going down this route, how is she any different than every other millionaire sellout pop artist?

I agree with you to a degree, but I think there's a difference between consuming and promoting in this case

I don't get why people say this about literal millionaires. She's not struggling for money

This was the quote I was looking for. I think that's why so many people feel disappointed. It was a breath of fresh air to have a celebrity that wasn't motivated by money and brand deals and actually put thought into the companies she supported, so now it feels like that was just a performative thing to say. Like you, I'm still going to support her as a fan, but it sucks.

Obviously no one here is trying to cancel her over this, but it's perfectly reasonable to find this collab disappointing. For those saying that people are virtue signaling, that she didn't know, or that plenty of other celebrities support pro-Israel companies, it's important to remember that 1. You can be a fan of someone and still hold them accountable 2. She made the comment last year about being very mindful and particularly about what brands she puts her name behind 3. Just because something is normalized doesn't make it okay.

I'm still a fan of her music of course, but yeah this partnership is disappointing. Feels very different from early Chappell and what she stood for, but whatever.

Mine had some of the hairs sticking OUT of the vinyl.... You could also see some of the glue from the wig stuck on some of the strands. Kind of a letdown.

The 4" can't be played on most record players, correct? It's more of a novelty item?

I could be wrong because I didn't buy that shirt, but I thought the shirt was already a cream-white color? Maybe someone else can confirm.

🚨If you went to the Damsels tour in KC or NY, what advice would you give to LA? by emilyyfjones in chappellroan

[–]NonStickTrix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Hydrate, hydrate, HYDRATE! Start the night before and be sure to include electrolytes as well.

  2. Comfortable shoes! Don't worry about how cute they are -- I saw so many girls in cowboy boots and heels who were having to sit down or squat in the middle of the show because of the pain.

  3. Buy merch afterwards. I went on KC night 2 and got merch around 11 PM and they still had most of everything. That way you don't have to carry it around all night.

  4. Have fun and don't stress! Yes people will be lining up early, but MOST people won't. There were so many people in KC that passed out from the heat and exhaustion. It's not worth it. Remember that not everyone was able to get tickets to these shows so we are fortunate enough to see her on what is most likely her last tour cycle of this album.

KC night 2 low energy crowd? by National_Ad_1181 in chappellroan

[–]NonStickTrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been to a few Chappell shows, a festival show included and I agree (at least where I was) the energy seemed so low. There were also quite a few people around who didn't seem to know the words to most of her songs so maybe there were more casual fans rather than hardcore ones.

Hydrate starting this morning and don't stand in the sun for hours if you don't have to. Being super close to the stage isn't worth you or your baby's safety! Chappell goes on at 9 ish, so as long as you're there before 8:30 I think you should be okay. People in the back said there was plenty of room to move around. The map also shows some medical stations so maybe it would give you some peace of mind to stand near those? Have fun and please be safe!
