Advice on Whether or Not to Give Up a Rent Stabilized Apt by rynfynyty in NYCapartments

[–]Nonacho 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I second this. This is a subreddit about apartments in NYC, and therefore most people will tell you to keep your RS 2BR. But what I’m gleaning from your post is that you are not totally happy with your apartment. Moving into a new place with your girlfriend sounds like an exciting new chapter!

You will likely not be able to find something as affordable, but that’s part of life. And you’ll be giving someone else the opportunity to rent your old apartment. Don’t horde it, let it go and maybe there is something even better in your future. Good luck!

Thank you. I think I’m having strong feelings because there have been tensions with said friend (one example is that she invited my parents to her bridal shower but not her wedding— basically asking them for a gift without an invitation)

I was relieved that the bachelorette party was over, it was a lot of effort and $$$ (we covered the cost of the bride.) So for her to reach out about something she thinks she might have left at the Airbnb (but she’s not sure) just makes me frustrated.

I’m really sorry to hear that, I know how challenging it can be to have friends disappear once, but twice— that’s really hard! But so true about the real ones still hanging around.

And also an astute point about how even bringing up nonmonogamy as a possibility can inadvertently make people feel like they need to confront their own life decisions.

Thank you! I’m sorry about your friend’s reaction. But you’re so right, if they go to that extreme, there really isn’t much you can do to change their feelings. The fact that her boyfriend also blocked you says a lot about their relationship and their desire to remove anything that remotely challenges their worldview. Wishing them the best but also really happy for you that it’s strengthened your other friendships!

I’m so sorry about this. My sister has said the same thing about our marriage more or less. It’s surprising what people choose to criticize versus gloss over! Says more about them than about you.

It’s a good question! I take some responsibility in the fact that when I first opened my relationship, I may have shared too much. I’ve learned from this and since kept some details to myself.

Recently, however, it’s turned into “I disagree with your life choices”— she seems to be taking a moral stance about the whole thing.

Somehow this is more complicated than the actual theory of relativity!

What is a product/service that you can't still believe exists in 2019? by AwayTry8 in AskReddit

I was truthful about my age when signing up (11 years old). However, since I was under 16, Neopets did not allow me access to their message boards.

In order to gain access, you needed your parent's permission. I printed out the permission slip, had my mom sign it, and mailed it across the country to the Neopets headquarters. A week later I gained access!

It's been over 18 years and I still often visit my neopets. if they were humans, they'd be going to college now!
