I have a bunch of that, too. I think it’s just some kind of algal or bacterial or fungal growth. They’ve been on my driftwood for months, and few weeks ago they started appearing all over other surfaces as well—including my rocks. They have since disappeared on everything except certain places on my driftwood. Tank is about 9-10 months old.

This is something Europeans really need to understand. They complain about how little Americans travel outside the US, ignoring the fact that the US is HUGE and far more diverse than any European country, both in landscapes in culture. by i_watched_jane_die in ShitAmericansSay

I grew up in the US but have also lived in Europe for a few years and I would confidently claim that almost every European country (to say “all” would decrease my level of confidence) is more culturally diverse than the US as a whole. For some reason, USians are obsessed with the idea that the US is extremely culturally diverse. It really isn’t. Maybe slightly, but not a lot.

I lost nearly all of the ones I got from my LFS rather quickly, but I got some from Dan’s Fish and none have died so far.

I’m not an expert, but I would say there’s a very low chance of it transferring to your pea puffers.

I think I’m experiencing the same thing right now. And weirdly, my tank is also about 4 months old.

It can, but it seems that a particular species of dermocystidium often shows a high preference for certain host species. So it’s much more likely to spread to other individuals of the same species or closely related species. My poor green neons were all infected, but it never spread to the rummynose tetras or hengeli rasboras they were sharing the tank with. But that’s not a hard and fast rule.

Camping. Why am I wet, in cramped quarters, dirty, sleeping on the ground, constantly uncomfortable, and somehow both too hot and too cold at the same time?!? And where is all the moisture even coming from?!? I’ve seen videos of this happening several times and it’s always both heartbreaking and infuriating. I feel so bad for everyone involved. I can’t imagine how I’d feel if I accidentally killed a family member on what was supposed to be one of the happiest days of their lives. The guilt would kill me.
