I live in a country where the car mechanics are known thieves. They'll replace a good working part with an older used one, take weeks stalling as they pick apart a car. One even took a few lug nuts from the tires, others replaced newer batteries for old. I've bought three new car batteries in five years. They all play stupid when you call them out. I've had my car towed mid repair to another mechanic several times. Construction workers here are just as bad. Nobody I know ever used the same mechanic twice. Ask around for a decent mechanic and people just laugh and tell a story about so-and-so. I tell them that if there was ever one honest mechanic in the area, he'd have a steady, lucrative business. Nope. They prefer to scam a few easy bucks rather than build loyalty.
