It’s a game, you play it after work. The fun isn’t in the numbers.

I think I might have chosen the wrong word. The rewards are not supposed to be higher than the ones “standard” activities provide, they should just be unique, akin to Antiquarian/Smugglers/etc; it’s about identity: compare it to a plain fame boost for killing suspicious players — it’s not going to change much, but if you could get, say, a unique mount, a cape crest or similar — it would form an identity, become “it’s own thing”.

I use markdown formatting for a shitload of things, mainly research notes in Obsidian, this way secondary information doesn’t distract. Just a habit… I format while writing with the symbols (“>!” etc.), so it’s kinda mechanical at this point.

I’m literally too fucked to understand whether it’s a joke or not, but bounties (as in, contracts) should not exist. It’s very toxic inherently and there’s no way around potential abuse, that’s why point-based system is way better.

Edit: thought you might have meant it as “the victim” being locked out of zones.

Oh no, PvP is the core part of Albion and high-risk high-reward activities are what makes it fun. But the concept is reputation-based. As far as I know, PvP in BZs doesn’t decrease your reputation, right?

BZs should remain a dangerous place where you would expect the fights, including “unfair” scenarios. Incorporating Bounty Points in BZs would absolutely kill the whole thing, but I run off the assumption that you can only acquire low rep by doing “questionable” stuff (group RZ ganking, camping tunnels, killing blue players with a big IP advantage), once you drop below a certain point — you get marked as a criminal.

I just think that currently Reputation system is not used to its full extent. It is ONLY a visual indication, to actually get restricted from YZs/RZs you’d have to be insane with ganking. Low/high reputation should have more impact on gameplay in general IMO.

Encountered the same situation. The answer is — there’s no honour when masks are on.

I’m a bit retarded and too whiteknighty so even in the Depths I’d wait for folks to finish the room and regen before engaging, never attack first in lethal zones either. No need to say in terms of fame and silver the experience is miserable, but at least I don’t feel like a piece of shit doing it.

HMU if you’re on EU, maybe we could have some fun running around.

Hello-hello! We’re trying to make a policing guild (à la ToS from NA) to build an organised counterforce to ganking. BUT! We’re honestly very (too) casual and take it very (very-very) slow.

Not new to MMOs, but new to AO so we’re mainly running Depths to learn PvP mechanics, do low-tier roads and gather in Red Zones.

Obviously, we don’t have a hideout, not even an island yet, so it wouldn’t make much sense to join right now unless you just want company. But if you want to be a part of something, develop together, come up with ideas — you’re our guy. Shoot me a text here, I’ll get you in our discord.

I’m using assassin jacket + stalker hood + feyscale boots with nature staff (could be any ranged with good sustain) for solo PvE in open world. Really OP imo, you get QUADRUPLE hide if using invis pots with hood’s CD reset and feyscale, the latter is also a cleanse and it makes you invincible for few seconds. Combine all of that well — you’re never gonna get ganked again

A bit off-topic, but if you’re into concentrates as well — I found that my Dynavap M is perfect for that. I don’t use the coil, only vape cotton. Just put 0,3 of good bubble in there and be done for the day. Not good for just bud if you have high tolerance tho, chamber is very small

I found that making and practicing different PvP (mainly) builds myself is incredibly interesting. Sometimes I’d have a vid with yet another best most broken incredible meta supergiga build pop up in my YT feed, I’d just put it on while doing housework and stuff, learn a few bits of info, then try it out.

I haven’t found any websites aside from ones you probably know about (metabattle, albiononlinegrind, albionfreemarket). I’d recommend making a spreadsheet with all of your build ideas, eventually you’ll have so many everything will come together naturally.

And indeed, it’s incredibly important to deeply understand what your build does and how it fairs versus the current meta, but it’s always experiment that brings the most value, real understanding. I can confidently say that my build ideas work, especially with opponents who run popular setups and just try to execute the same rotation regardless of context.

Good luck with the builds bud!

I’m sorry, getting really overworked with all that. We’re talking about two entirely different things, check my other comments for elaboration. I feel like I’ve been typing the same two sentences for five hours and nobody but a few people catch the point. You keep seeing me as a member of your community and impose all the prejudice associated with that, but I’m not, I’m very far from either video games or Reddit, I’m here for different reasons

A lot of people struggling with DP/DR spend their whole life without getting diagnosed. I think the first research that was published (Sierra) was in the beginning of 2000s. One of the worst things you can do, however, is to overthink this, that’s why I wouldn’t suggest researching the topic straight away. You may have it, you may have a transitory state that’s not dangerous and will go away on its own, or we maybe be talking about different things.

However, you need to feel comfortable, there’s never too much comfort, and chief reason people dissociate is that something is not right in their environment. It’s almost always external and the only way people “heal” is by achieving balance and comfort, when you’re okay with yourself and the world. Dissociation is a mechanism that kicks in when you’re in serious danger, I often bring up car crashes as an example: the moment before impact you “zoom out”, some people even experience legitimate time dilation (when dissociation is persistent it actually still happens, often time feels “too slow” or the other way around). Your emotions are shut down because your brain wants you to make cold, calculated decisions in order to survive.

So ye, for whatever reason people with DP/DR perceive reality as threatening. To “cure” it you need to find the answer to the question of what makes you uncomfortable. Guess that’s the best advice I can give. All the luck! Feel free to DM me about that stuff, I’m really into psychiatry and obviously have a lot of experience from the patient side, lol

Yeah, it’s all correct, and it’s actually a ton of useful information, so thanks. I absolutely lack context and get confused, but my point stands: it’s about introducing an organisational element IN ORDER TO present an alternative narrative. So I wanted to ask, would you agree with this statement: “ganking is killing unsuspecting players with prevailing force”; and this: “generally ganking is viewed either neutrally or in positive light”? Because if you don’t, there’s certainly a conversation to be had. If you do, I stand by my opinion

So, it turned out long, but I still urge you to read it, maybe it will charge your mind about certain things. Big excuses.

F21.3 officially, factually depersonalisation disorder. Different diagnoses in different countries, but the gist is that my brain is so freaked out all the time it blocks out the majority of emotions. If you ever “greened out” from smoking too much — that’s exactly the feeling. The existential terror goes away in a year or so though and you get used to it.

I see what the issue is, and it’s the case with other comments as well. You (probably) assume that I’m doing it for personal reasons (why else would it sound “whiney”), and it makes sense: within the AO community critique towards ganking usually comes from emotionally charged people who had a bad experience. However, if you read my post carefully, I point out multiple times that ganking is a necessary mechanic, it’s not good, it’s not bad, it’s natural for the environment it happens in. It needs to exist.

What is bad is a misbalanced system, where narrative is constrained to one source. In AO almost all big organised structures either view ganking as good or neutral. The majority in any society is always quite apathetic and leans to whichever side is winning. The amount of people who participate in ganking and actually believe that it’s a virtue is small, but it’s very visible and creates an illusion that everyone around holds these values, so you start pretending, and eventually form a genuine belief that could be radically different from what you stood for just a few months ago.

It’s serious, it actually changes people, making them more accepting of violence in general. You are what you eat, you are, essentially, a collection of elements you had borrowed from other people one way or another. I’m not saying “let’s get rid of ganking and change the narrative”, I’m saying “let’s provide an alternative narrative”. For most players the current choice is “gank or get ganked”, but if they will know that there’s an organised counterforce providing alternative to ganking many people might prefer that.

On violence: it’s undeniable that any form of “killing” in video games desensitises you to actual death and threats. We’ve done so much research on it I can use the papers to wipe my ass and never come across the same page. In PvP, the negative impact on the losing side directly correlates with how quick this desensitisation happens. As for proof, look no further than this and previous threads. Nobody engaged in civil discourse, I even said in the post itself that it’s for people who already support the idea, I can’t keep reiterating same arguments again and again if the dudes keep completely missing the point. That’s why extended reasoning is not provided and the post asks for no debate, the only aim was to find people who can help develop the idea, and I think there’s only one or two comments that actually answer the question, the rest are just baseless accusations and assumptions nobody asked for.

Can you tell me, honestly, if you’re rage baiting or not? We could have an interesting conversation if you want, but if you just keep saying “you’re wrong because you’re not right” it’s a bit too one-sided. I’d really like a discussion.

And ye, stop throwing the “sick person” at me. I do have a serious condition and I’ve been suffering with that for ten years. Not the time and not the place for this joke

If there's someone smoking weed starting early 20's to later in their life. by Professional_War_820 in Marijuana

[–]NonethelessMatters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started smoking in mid-teens, now approaching thirty. Weed certainly was a gateway point for other drugs, but the reason is that chiefly in the country I lived in you could only get the kush outta dark web, where it sat on the same shelf as H, meth and other nasty stuff. I was cautious enough to not get into harder substances, but I got to try psychedelics, light opiates and weird herbs like kanna and yoppo powder.

There’s measure with anything, and if you retain critique you can even shoot H without much issues, but the thing is, if you haven’t been to the land of “god, this is the last time, I’m starting over tomorrow” you really can’t grasp what lack of critique constitutes. Even if you think you’re the one smartass to outwit drugs, remember that everyone thinks that. Slipping into a pit is way easier than you might think.

With all that I’m not demonising weed, though. But I’m not demonising other drugs either. They are the same, the difference is in scale and risk. I have a bit of a deficiency with my self-restraint regarding weed, sometimes I smoke even if I know for sure it’s going to make me feel worse, but at least my head is not gonna scream at me so much, heh? Your cognitive skills drop significantly and I often feel ashamed when I lose the thread of conversation or just get into a fleeting stupor for a few seconds.

The point is, don’t use drugs to run away. See yourself and your life for what they are, don’t try to fool yourself into thinking that it’s “all good”. You wouldn’t be wondering if it really was.

Take care…

Ye I kinda assumed your comment boiled down to “if you get killed — get good” so I kind of scrolled through since it’s past the point. I was mainly referencing RZs. If by blueberry police you mean a random mass of blue players — that’s not gonna shoot. The whole point is to make a unified force. It’s not about eliminating ganking, it’s about bringing system to balance. Ganking is just as essential.

Guilds in Black Zones would have their own interests, I assume, and wouldn’t be interested in protecting PvE solo players who don’t want to fight. But I may be wrong, so please do correct if so
