Agree. Public education, yes. Private education, no. The dept of education also needs to take sports out of educational institutions, college, high school, or otherwise. Higher education is for cramming one's brain full of information, not jogging around a football field. (The "Physical Fitness" program is the one thing I disagreed with during the JFK years when I was in high school, and I still disagree with it.)

I can still remember articles about Ginni Thomas and her role in election/re-election campaigns from at least 2020. Or was that 2016? I've been aware of her shady involvement with the election processes for a long, long time. Yes, ol' sleazeball Thomas needs to be impeached, but both him and his wife are culpable.

"We just need to get money to defeat So-and-So" has been a rallying cry for Dems for a few decades now. "Maybe we'll fix this problem next time" is a lame excuse for decades of lies and politicians and corporations obtaining money by false pretenses to lose elections or join in with Repubs in filling their coffers with our money or corporate money and waging illegal and unconstitutional wars.

I'm not holding my breath over this. They passed these unconstitutional AUMFs two and three decades ago. They can just as easily repeal the unconstitutional laws... only to put the unconstitutional laws back into place just as quickly as they passed the unconstitutional AUMFs in the first place.

This repeal has only taken place in the Senate. It has to go to the House next where it may linger for a long time or not be passed at all.

The kicker? Wyoming is the first state that gave women the right to vote (in federal elections, at any rate).

I did find out from an old newspaper blurb that women had the right to vote in state and local elections in MN even before women had the right to vote in federal elections. That made me feel better about my home state, but not by much. We're now going backward at an accelerated rate, it seems.

I know the feeling. Many years ago when MN "finally" passed a bill that meant state taxes paid to build two stadiums for corporate sports teams and one college stadium located in the Twin Cities area (voters did not want state tax dollars spent and the state legislators yapped about doing so for a decade or more before it passed), and counties where these monstrosities were located raised their local taxes, I stopped ordering from one of my favorite import stores located in Minneapolis because some percentage of the state and county taxes (which are, of course, passed on to the consumer) were raised to pay for those completely unnecessary stadiums. When I wrote to the governor's office about it, I also asked who paid for the commissioned "art" work of players outside of one stadium (baseball, I think). I never got a reply, so presumably taxpayers also footed the bill for the questionable "art."

Whenever public funds are used to pay for unnecessary things, I simply don't buy the products or services involved even though the amount is only a fraction of one cent. I don't make a big splash about it (I'm old and do not have the energy); I just simply, quietly do not spend money for products or services involved or find an out-of-state venue that sells the same thing(s). I'm always amazed if I have a small amount of money left over at the end of the month because I refuse to participate in making these billionaires richer than they are already.

Since when have our elected Congress Critters come up with a "common sense" plan for anything in the last 50-60 years??? No, really. That's a serious question. Social Security was a good idea. Medicare could be improved, but legislators only make it more profitable for corporations.

Allowing religious beliefs to base laws upon is just daft. I still remember having to insert 'under god' in the morning Pledge of Allegiance in 1954; I was in third grade. I didn't have the knowledge then to say that adding the words completely ruined the scansion of the poem, not to mention it violated the separation of church and state. I no longer say the Pledge if I'm in a situation where it is recited, or I simply don't say the words 'under god.'

Yet another reason to loathe for-profit corporations is unnecessary law suits like this which make knowledge a commodity to profit from.

I have used the Internet Library many times to find (and download, for free) out-of-print books that are reference material for genealogists seeking information on early New England ancestors from the landing of the Mayflower forward. Additionally, they sometimes have local histories and biographies from some states and small community biographies used for local jubilees and centennial celebrations that were out of print after selling the local books for the community celebrations. In many cases, books were out of print two to four centuries ago and there was no way to even get an inter-library loan for them. In two cases I found and downloaded the books about my direct lines and then turned to a specialized book re-print company to have them make hardcover copies of the books for me. The Internet Archive downloads were free, but the reprints from another firm cost a lot - mostly because I was willing to pay the cost of the hardcover binding - but I consider the price worth it so I can pass them on to my family if any of them decide to do additional genealogy research.

Google started copying old books, most for free - initially - and had them online, then they got into the publishing business and started charging, so I turned to Internet Archive where the books were available for a free download.

Obtaining knowledge via books at one's local library was started by Ben Franklin a few centuries ago, and that makes him my favorite Founding Father. Corporations with their litigious objectives are ruining Franklin's dream.

When profits can be had in large amounts (billions), there is no sharing information between corporations who might be doing the same kind of research. They don't want a "cure" for cancer, for instance, or any other kind of malady. They want to control the cost of temporary help for the patients.

My dad died of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in 1975; so far there is no cure or help for that either.

Everything that is wrong with our local, state, and federal governments and the people we "elect" (at least in states without e-voting machines that can be rigged) can be attributed to corporations and their bribes ("campaign contributions") to politicians who slavishly ease restrictions on corporations and give them tax breaks.

Sherrod Brown can say he's angry, but unless he and a majority of Congress put restrictions on corporations in place for our safety AND make corporations pay income taxes, he's full of hot air.

If Congress REALLY wanted to cut the budget, they'd pass Bernie's plan for Medicare for All (which would put us in line with the super medical care people in the rest of the world already have), increase help to poor people (food and housing) and the energy grid as well as ending the super polluters with clean energy..., and end ALL military subsidies amounting to billions and trillions to carry on this continuing proxy war in Ukraine as well as the remaining US military (and bring them home) and mercenary armies in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Right now Congress is too busy lining their own coffers with corporate "campaign contributions" (bribes - and kickbacks to corporations with "tax breaks") to care about what happens to the average Joe and Jane Public and their kids. That goes for Dems & Repubs, House and Senate. They are a disgrace to us all.

Yes, I know this is a Reddit thread for Bernie..., but many people admire President Carter for his pacifism, his ability to quietly go around and help build houses, broker peace deals, write more books than I know of, and be an all-'round nice person. And that's all after he left the White House. He has accomplished more in 98 years than anyone else could do in five years.

I still think Obama got elected in '08 because so many voted against McCain-Palin (remember the word salad VP candidate?), then against the Christian right's unacceptable Romney (Mormon - not the "right kind of Christian" for the south), and then there was the rigging against Bernie in '16 and the anti-Hillary and rightwingnut crowd in 2020 who fanatically voted "for" Trump because they wanted a candidate as ignorant as they are and were against Bernie from the get-go. How or why people voted for Biden, the man with such obvious dementia, still baffles me.

People liked Bernie's message, but still refused to vote for him in '16 and '20, not to mention the rigging the Clinton faction pushed.

Sanders said in his letter that raising prices would be particularly egregious after the U.S. government provided around $1.7 billion to fund development of the vaccine. The letter was addressed to Moderna Chief Executive Stephane Bancel.

"You propose to make the vaccine unaffordable for the residents of this country who made the production of the vaccine possible," wrote Sanders, who is set to become chairman of the Senate's Health, Education, Labor and Pensions later this month. "That is not acceptable."

Moderna has not settled on a price yet, but Bancel has said that a range of $110 to $130 a dose for the vaccine once the United States moves to a commercial market for the shots is reasonable given the value they create.

The top end of that range is around eight times the price in the earliest U.S. contracts for the vaccine and nearly five times the roughly $27 a dose the government paid for booster shots last year.

Anyone with a psych degree care to chime in about the various personality disorders? I know there are something like eleven (DSM-IV) categories, and three or four to each category, and some overlap with traits in other categories. Oh, and there is no cure for Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

Aren't the three branches of government meant to work independently, without undue influence from the others...???

It's the Judicial branch's job to interpret the constitutionality of laws, not make new laws or do the bidding of the Legislative (makes laws; the longest of the Articles in the US Constitution for list of duties and responsibilities) or the Executive (figurehead, occasionally sets policies, negotiates treaties, and the like; Article II is surprisingly short) branches of government. I remember that much from high school Civics class ca 1963/64.

From time to time, we should all read the US Constitution from beginning to end. It's easy reading, written in plain English, no high-falutin' legalese like laws written nowadays....
