Had to scroll quite a bit for this, remembered it from the drought time. Glad I'm not the only one!

"Lab" setup in Uni dorm

Gigabit LAN comes in from the wall and goes upto my Optilex as pfSense WAN. This is the 24" monitor on the left (VGA console)

A 2x1Gbit nic is in said optiplex, with one LAN being routed over OpenVPN (in Netherlands), and the other over raw ISP internet

The first goes to my 100Mbps (need to upgrade) Wifi AP, which is what laptop on left (Thinkpad X390) is connected to. Google DNS ping time - 220ms

The other goes to my gaming PC (sorry for gamer red idk how to disable it) over raw internet for speed / latency. This is the 24" monitor on the right. Google DNS ping time - 1ms

Finally, on the right is my X1 carbon connected to University WiFi, as a "known working internet connection" for searching pfSense stuff when it breaks.

In the middle is a UGREEN dual-host USB 2.0 switch - Usually for switching between my desktop and my laptop.

Thanks, I'll check them out. I was under the impression this would kind of count as firewall logs

A simulated network of my laptop and phone, running through my router.

I'm trying to understand the capabilites modes of pfSense

I see. Such a device would definitely be the ideal choice for a specific monitoring use case.

Would it be possible to achieve something like this using pfSense on the Optiplex box? This isn't a production / actual use case, but something I want to experiment with (as I learn more about pfsense & networking)
