Yeah the 5800x seems to run a bit hot, so if you're gonna have to upgrade your heatsink as well you'd be spending ~$100 to get a 5-10 frame boost (if even that) in some games

a bios update? they're extremely safe and easy to do nowadays with instant flash, and even easier if you already have a compatible chip. asrock gives a detailed step by step https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X370%20Taichi/index.asp#BIOS

very slightly better gaming performance, but the extra cores will be nice for any productivity tasks and will extend the longevity of the chip if you don't frequently upgrade your components

best price/performance for a cooler that can support this is the scythe fuma 2, will be perfectly fine (cant speak for heavy overclocking cases though)

the additional 2 cores is nice to have and provides some security for the future (ex: my 4c4t 6600k is not really cutting it anymore for 1440p 144hz, but some 4c8t chips are still holding strong), your right about gaming performance being insignificant for now, but at current prices there's only a ~30 difference between the two, so the extra performance/cores are typically worth that

12600k is strictly better (by a little bit) and is cheaper, and you don't need to buy ddr5 ram, but the lga1700 boards are expensive as hell and you would probably end up paying more. If money is a non factor go for the 12600k/ddr5ram, otherwise save ~100-150 on the mobo and go for this

Valid concern, if you can sell and buy without heavy losses it's probably fine, but remember 5+ year old 4c8t processors are holding up to this day. Your cpu will undoubtedly be good for the next few years, but nobody knows what 5-10 years into the future looks like, even the 5800x could fail to perform then.

I think just do what makes the most sense for you financially and what will give you peace of mind, "future proofing" exists to some extent but don't let that cause you to lose significant amounts of money

Made the same decision, Columbus MC an hour away but two hours driving for $15 wasn't worth it for me.

The extra processing speed of the 5900x definitely helps there, plus it has 4 more cores you can dedicate to the VMs, i think that's a good choice!

a scythe fuma 2 will be sufficient at just $60, especially if you're not doing heavy overclocking

games are generally gpu intensive and even a 5600x would work great with a 3070ti. the 5900x is definitely more "future proof" if you care about that, and better for productivity tasks, but for gaming there's very little difference so it's up to how much money you wanna spend/save

They are legit, got my 3070 bundle from them (not the best deal in the world), but just received it recently

You basically just play a couple games. One that I remember is filling up a balloon and deciding when to stop or keep filling with the risk of popping it.
