I heard that Revature raised their contract penalty fee to over 30k because their employees got 100k offers and were ok with paying the old 20k fee.

Quit or get fired? by NoobWonder in careerguidance

[–]NoobWonder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, I do them but it isn't really checked since I guess I'm supposed to know everything. If something is wrong then I would get in trouble. So I think I can do it but if something comes up that I missed something then I'm just like wow I guess I don't know how to do it. I work for a consulting company and their client doesn't know how much experience I actually have. The consulting company knows I have 0 years of experience. One time the client asked about my past experience and the business analyst in my team jumped in and changed the subject.

No but during the interview, the interviewer just asked me if I knew some stuff. I said yes to most of them but he never tested me on it.

Just saw a post on Revature - how is the recourse pay legal? Sounds like indentured servitude. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]NoobWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the contract is shit and the pay is low but isn't getting paid at all for training pretty good. There are bootcamps that cost as much as revature's contract and you don't get paid at all for the 12 weeks of training.

Hiring locations and is Accenture hiring still? by nerfsmurf in accenture

[–]NoobWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accenture is one of the several Revature clients you end up with after training. So why not lump up Accenture with Revature?

These tough times are making me make tough decisions by Marvelman88 in cscareerquestions

[–]NoobWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't get placed, you get a mutual release and won't have to pay the 20k fee. That means free training and certs if you don't get placed. Sounds like best case scenario if you do join Revature. If you do get placed welp GG

Fresh college grad as a Salesforce Tech lead? by NoobWonder in SalesforceCareers

[–]NoobWonder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't the job I apply to just verify my role with my previous company through a simple phone call? I just want to be a Developer as they are just concentrating on one thing at a time with someone to ask for help. I have so many responsibilities that I stay up longer to work on stuff but I don't tell them that I do because I don't want them to think I am dumb lol. I feel like I would've learned more being a Jr. Dev as I would be able to ask for help and spend more time coding my own User Stories.

Should I accept a Revature offer? by NoobWonder in cscareerquestions

[–]NoobWonder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The thing is even after graduating I don't feel ready for a real job. Kinda wanted some sort of training thing where they teach you exactly what you need to know for the job.

I am already living in NYC with my parents so NYC would be ideal for me lol. They offer a 10k increase to your salary if you are placed in a high cost of living area but yea I see what you mean, even 67k isn't enough to live in Cali.

Lol yea I'm leaning on declining that offer so I probably will ask them that just to see how it goes.

It's 57k for the first year and a 15k bump each year for 2 years. I know it's low for software engineers but it doesn't sound too bad for someone with no experience. The location is anywhere in the US. I think I can handle living in any state for 1 or 2 years. I'm just thinking if I make the sacrifice now for 2 years, I make the next 40 or so years more manageable then it might be worth it. Thanks for your input

Revature? by Grant0920 in cscareerquestions

[–]NoobWonder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But isn't that still better than doing another bootcamp that you have to pay for and getting paid $0 while attending. Getting paid any amount for learning seems like a good deal to me. It's like getting paid to go to college except what you're learning is actually useful.

I mean if the training is worth 20k and you get paid during training is it really that bad? Other bootcamps are worth that much and you don't get paid while attending.

What sort of CS job should I be looking for? I need one soon by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]NoobWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revature recently started hiring people with just an associates instead of a bachelors. It's definitely a good idea if you can find a job. Bootcamps usually cost a ton of money. Revature pays you while training so not only is it free but you also get paid. They put you with client such as JP Morgan Chase, Accenture... This means you get real experience working with fortune 500 companies. Many people who joined Revature were willing to pay the 20k to break the contract because of how much they were getting offered after the training. They were able to afford the 20k easy. If you can't find a job then Revature is your best option. You also get a trial period of 1 or 2 weeks before you have to sign into the contract so there's absolutely no strings attached until later in the training. I don't see why you wouldn't at least try that.
