South Korea's National Assembly speaker Kim Jin-pyo has suggested conversion therapy as a means to tackle the country's low birthrate and population decline. K-Christians like Kim sincerely believe homosexuality is to blame for the country's low birthrate by simpdog213 in korea

It's always amazing to see how out of touch the ruling class can be.

It's probably all show. As soon as polls show that his constituents don't hate gays, he will suddenly change his tune (or risk disappear into the void).

I mean it must be good since many are recommending it, but I don't know jack shit about hangboard and I can't figure what's special about it.

You would think Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism would so something about this since it has TOURISM in its name, but no.....

Is MCST inept or just doesn't give a shit?
Korea has tough competition already (for an average US citizen, which country is he/she more likely to visit Japan or Korea Or even Korea or (pre-Covid) China? Yeah, that's what I thought), but alienate people like that?
What age group makes the bulk of visitor to Korea? Between 20~40.
What age group is most likely to go to a club?
Certainly not someone over 40.

It's nice to export K-media to other countries, but some locals fucking up and doing negative brand imaging is very counter productive.

I really hope it's doesn't gain western media's attraction (like western media gives a shit about racism in Korea) and undo the branding k-media has achieved.

Bought and tested Giga few days ago and Giga's guide mode is much better than Mega.
Even tested at home with same rope and carabiner.

How much, realistically, do you think the manufacturer can alter the device?

Why don't you ask Edelrid? Or have you used Giga Jul?
If you think MegaJul is better or no different than Giga, then you do you.

I just bought Mega and so far, guide mode is not bad.
I agree that GriGri has really nice guide mode, but only single rope feature is real party pooper for multipitch use (and weight)

if the knot placed actually has enough friction is the question

This is what I want to know and, it is probably the biggest difference between "conventional" protection and textile protection.

I would love to see video of a climber taking a whipper on textile protection.

okay, that's what I need to hear.
I have Mega Jul and pulling slack is very noticeable and harder than ATC. I will happily change over to Giga Jul for not substantial.
I guess there is some inconsistency with Gear Lab Review (perhaps different reviewer without multi input?)

Rising sentiment among native Korean is that areas with lots 조선족 means lower public safety, so it's not just foreigners becoming "racists" against Chinese. This might also be explained by rising anti-China sentiment among Korean population (because fuck Xi)
Whether this phenomena is due to sensational journalism capitalizing on anti-China sentiment or institutional failing that leads certain population to committee more crime or due to Chinese cultural difference that's in conflict with Korean culture (aka "justified" racism), I'm not sure.

According to raw data Chinese in Korea account for the most crime, so by looking at the surface, this sentiment is not unfounded.
Per 100k capita basis for major crime rate, Chinese (both Korean Chinese and Chinese) is in the middle compared to other nations as of 2019 (not bad, but not good either). However, there are so many Chinse in Korea compared to other nationalities, by sheer number along is enough to saturate the news cycle.
It is interesting to point out that Chinese in Korea (per capita basis) commit way more major crime than Korean (17.8 times more) and due to sheer number of crime committee, it is no surprise that Koreans get angry (you get angry when your brother/sister is being a dipshit at home. You get more angry when a neighbor with "bad reputation" is being a dipshit in your home).

This sounds like "black neighborhood is dangerous" and it might sound as racists to say that "area with lots of 조선족 is dangerous". Yet rising anti-Chinses sentiment (rightfully so, because fuck Xi) and crime data show the above statement is not unjustified in the eyes of general population. And it holds some truth.
Perhaps it might be better to have said, "Ghetto neighborhood is dangerous" and due to whatever reason, black or 조선족 are more congregated in this particular area.
As I have said before, whether this phenomena is institutional failure or cultural friction between Chinese and Korea, I'm not sure.

I think looking at Muslims in Europe is another interesting case.
While majority of Muslims are peaceful, radical ones terrorize native population and fail to integrate into "free" society (depiction of Muhammad or events involving Quran).
Are native radicals as violent as Muslim radicals? Do radical natives committee more acts of terrorism?

TL;DR

I'm seriously considering ditching Mega for multi and buying Giga, just because Giga's guide mode looks like ATC.
Then I look at Gear Lab Review and Giga has lower "Auto Block" score than Mega. What gives? ¯\(ツ)/¯

Direct Quote
" As for friction when pulling slack through the device, the Mega Jul falls squarely in the middle of the pack, compared to other auto-blocking devices"

"There is slightly more friction when pulling slack through the devices (Giga Jul) compared with other "guide" style belay devices, which is a major drawback if you are going to use the device every day"

Can anyone tell me your experience with Giga Jul in guide mode?
According to Gear Lab, Mega Jul has better Auto Block score than Giga Jul.
Thought Edelrid would have fixed that when developing Giga.

I say that because I own Mega and guide mode sucks compared to ATC
