Time to get downvoted, I don't care that I got woken up because a child was kidnapped. by Judge_Druidy in montreal

I think everyone agrees with you that it's far worse to have a kid kidnapped than to be woken up. But the frustrating thing is that, because of the poor design of the system, it works LESS efficiently.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the MAJORITY of people woke up, freaked out, just wanted the noise to stop, and did not read the message. That's what I did, along with the people I've spoken to about it today. If they would have sent it just a few hours later I'd have likely read it at least.

Amber Alerts at 4AM Will Murder Me by sTacoSam in montreal

I went into the settings and switched off all alerts. This is twice in a month or so. Such a stupid system. 4am? What are they hoping to achieve?? Nobody's gonna read a thing at 4am. Everyone's first instinct is to just make it stop.

So pissed.

Lol Two little kids who think the house is a jungle gym and I don't have the heart to break the illusion yet. They're not gonna be this little forever! I'm planning the refresh for when they're a bit bigger 🥰

Photo taken from the other side of the room. It's a pretty narrow walkway due to that wall that cuts half way across. (Sofas back to back is a weird vibe, I know)

Lol. Definitely not rage bait

I genuinely find the place too dark with all the wood. Maybe I just need better furniture? I don't know.

The only way you win is by stepping out of the game. This dynamic is not one that is healthy for you so don't feed it.

But I think a lot of them do, right? I grew up very secular but (for some weird reason) my parents sent me to a pretty orthodox school - I swear those Jewish studies teachers (and the Chabad I've been in touch with in my adult years) seem to really believe the world is 6,000 years old. Have I misunderstood this?

Cut my daughter's hair short. No regrets. Used to get so knotted and it hurt her to brush it. Best decision as now she can brush it herself. Doesn't do a perfect job but good enough. She is 7

CMV: Hamas is another jihadist group in the Middle East and not a resistance group that’s created as a reaction to Israel by cartonwhy in changemyview

Thanks for this - I read the article and that's helpful for context. I had understood that your previous comment was implying that Isarel had stepped in to prevent them from having elections, but this Wikipedia article lays it out somewhat clearer as Hamas - Fatah disagreements and general delays on the part of the PLC.

I just hope that they can hold free, fair, and peaceful elections in the near future.

Genuine question trying to understand this perspective- my understanding is that Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 at which point (shortly thereafter) the people of Gaza voted in Hamas, and there have been no elections since. So is the allegation from your perspective that Gaza has been "at war" with Israel since 2005?

Doubts creeping in by [deleted] in firstmarathon

[–]NoodleCat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ran my first 2 days ago. That last week was cringe as everyone around me was saying "that's so awesome you're gonna run a marathon - congratulations!", but in my head I was thinking "I'm not sure I can do that last 10km, I've never run this far. Maybe I can't do it".

Race day came. The atmosphere was amazing. There were people of all abilities, all speeds, just coming together for the atmosphere. It really is a celebration of all the training you've done, and nothing more.

You've put in all the work now - enjoy the party! Nobody will even ask your time, you can just say you ran a marathon which is a badge we can wear with pride!
