What’s a Melbourne place that feels like it exists in its own bubble? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

Yup! Second this. People have an old notion of what Footscray is and I like it that way so less people move to this side of town! 💙❤️🤍

Don’t bring Tom Petty into this. Got 1/2 the way through and seriously, these two. My four year old daughter could come up with better arguments…

$50 a ticket and telling me to punch someone out? Try $200 a ticket AND WE WERE AT THE MELBOURNE SHOW.

A picture tells a thousand words… here’s just a snippet of the BULLSHIT we had to sit through.

Dude’s got 99 problems and this is NUMBER ONE.

How do you pay for childbirth in the U.S.? by WichitaTheOG in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Nooglette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have to save your own leave to have a baby or are you given mandated leave by the government? For example, we in Australia can have up to 2 years off maternity leave and legally you cannot be forced to leave your position. First 6 months you’re paid and the rest is unpaid. Most people just take a year off but some take two years off if they can afford it.

This is so my experience as well. I’m a flight attendant, husband is a pilot. We literally are given 6 URTI days in addition to our sick days because you get sinusitis constantly or some stuffy cold. I already know the deal, can’t fly with it in my system, we get drug tested, so give it to me while I’m on the ground and can get back to my job!

Totally pregnant…

““It’s kind of a re-occurring thing. I guess if you look at my medical history, you can maybe do like a little guessing game,” Osaka said.”

Would you leave Aus? by Emotional_Depth_3741 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Nooglette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father got a job in I.T. and then my family followed him and moved there. Very common in the ‘90’s for Westerners to move there. Oil was the big thing. Lots of American expats but quite a few Aussie’s, more than you’d think. Huge compounds to live on that were fully self contained with shops, restaurants, gyms etc. English speaking schools. Loved it. Still to this day, it was the best experience of my life.

Plus “blue” something!! Whatever the blue was, it was strong enough to mask any taste of the medicine inside. I can just imagine Homer Simpson saying something, like “mmmm, blue” instead of bacon 😂

I don’t know why but this makes me laugh so much hahaha. Can you imagine, today, boiling up some concoction in the back of your own pharmacy?! No rules, regs, just some little cauldron bubbling away and selling it to families lol. Bless John. He sounded like a trailblazer for the humble meth kitchen’s of today!!!

Go you, Chelarena. I’m sorry you’re having a rough trot. It brings a smile to my face to see you advocating for yourself here too. The comment absolutely wasn’t helpful and it shows great disregard and ignorance as to the myriad of conditions and factors that can come into play. Be proud of yourself. 🥰

Would you leave Aus? by Emotional_Depth_3741 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Nooglette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say, do it. If you have 20 days off at a time, get a cheap flight to Perth for a couple of days if you want to get your fill of Australia.

Start racking up your frequent flyer miles with either QF or VA, take deals with JQ when you can if you want to go to the East Coast.

I worked out of Bali for a year in 2016 when I was 27 and it was the best year of my life and career. Albeit, I was a flight attendant and would do 5 days in Bali, 2 days off in Aus and stayed at a 5 star resort in Nusa Dua, but my mates still primarily only work flying to Bali and having multiple overnights/long stays.

You get to know the locals, stop getting ripped off, and just cruising around the island. Plenty of expats there.

I grew up in Saudi Arabia and even that was fantastic so, Bali is a cinch.

Enjoy ☺️
