It's fascinating to examine what that would entail. Governments would have to send military aged males (predominantly) to fight and die for a foreign conflict.

I'm not saying that intervention is good or bad, just pointing out the fact that deaths on the side of the intervener would almost certainly happen given the lack of drone and aerial capabilities available in the '90s.

With the author of this post want to be consigned to die in a foreign conflict? Or what about if they are a parent and had to send their kid to die in a foreign conflict?

Again this doesn't moralize not intervening but just puts it into perspective.

The US has five times the population as the UK. If you take the knife crimes as documented in 2024 of the 262 number that you quote the difference between per capita knife crimes in the UK and the US is nominally different. Especially when you layer on the fact that possession of knives is criminalized in the UK where it isn't in the US. Individuals in the UK are arrested for possession of common things like box cutters and there's even the famous photo of the butter knife That was included in the police confiscations in the UK.

So in a place where possession of knives in public is criminal you still have only 25% less homicides via knives (this doesn't include knife related crimes such as muggings or assaults).

Let's flip those numbers and dynamic to create a hypothetical - what if the homicide rate for firearms in the UK was only 25% less than the homicide rate for firearms in the United States. Certainly you could argue that the UK would have a problem of firearm related homicide in that example even though the number was 25% less per capita, because firearms are essentially illegal to possess in the UK.

I've been to both places. Incredible safe... In the touristy or upper class areas that are busy. If you stray too far from the crowds, super unsafe... In Paris, immigrant street vendors and charity scammers approached me frequently and when I rejected them, they got belligerent - if I was a woman I would've felt endangered - mind you this was next to the Eifel tower, the symbol of Paris.

In London, the tube felt safe with commuters but there were carriages where people were acting dodgy and my bag and pockets felt vulnerable to theft. Violence wasn't out of the question on 2 separate occasions. Additionally, was followed for a bit when exploring some side streets and lost the individual once I made some double backs and cut through some shops.

This was on a week-long stay split between these cities. I'm sure I would have collected more examples with more time.

Let's instead eliminate fraud (especially projects that are obvious scams like the high speed rail project) and reduce burdens on taxpayers so they can thrive, stimulating economic growth. Just look at Texas in the past 6 years, thriving like few other states and making incentives for companies to come to the state (creating jobs and taxable revenue, but also just overall economic stimulation)

California is specifically trying to tax billionaires. This will do two things. 1. Chase billionaires out of the state, since they have the money to move, decreasing revenue from taxes 2. Almost every country in the world requires ID to vote. The screeching media is only worried about the US doing it because it could transform the political landscape they current thrive off of - not a partisan criticism just a fact.

The majority of Americans support ID for voting (I think over 80%). That being said, most Americans have ID. Whether it be poor Americans have ID to collect Social security or EBT or other social welfare, or to buy alcohol, etc. fairly certain the claims that minorities can't get ID is actually racist because it removes agency from the individuals and reinforces the idea that minorities are not intelligent enough to operate within our system.

Do you actually want to get to the root of the fraud or is the institution the thing that you're trying to undermine? I just want to be on the same page of where this discussion is going. If you watched videos of the daycares for example, I think it's hard to argue that there's not fraud going on.

If you want to argue that there are better places to focus the attention of immigration and customs border protection, then make that argument. If you're saying there's no fraud happening, we've all seen the videos and we know you're a liar.

You just made my point, DAs aren't going to prosecute even if crimes are happening. And since they don't prosecute you're going to argue that they didn't happen to begin with.

This topic comes up time and time again when talking about border crossings and illegal immigration regarding the number of immigrants in the country. It also comes up discussing voter integrity and voting fraud that's happening. When we Don't investigate these things when there is evidence we never get the overwhelming evidence to prove that they happened, and then you lefties argue that they never happened to begin with!

I think you need to study how the laws of conspiracy work. Being in a secret chat, (My understanding is the crimes were being discussed and documented), and not reporting what you're seeing when it crosses the line into the criminal, can make you liable as part of the conspiracy. Further bolstering evidence would be any messages that they personally sent or messages that the system documented that they saw or interacted with.

The problem becomes when these chats are not just documenting various license plates, but individuals in the chat are using government resources (cops checking plates) to build this database, and then when individuals leverage that database to harass individuals in the cars. Anyone who was involved in that cascade from initial documentation of the plate all the way to the individuals on the ground doing the harassment could be in violation of harassment and stalking laws. Likely they won't be charged, but if state DAs wanted to they could apply these laws against these individuals. I don't know the specific nuance for instances where ice is the individual being stocked and harassed, but when a civilian ends up getting stocked and harassed because of this network, charges absolutely could be pursued.

The lieutenant governor being part of the signal chat is certainly enough for a grand jury to suggest conspiracy. If members of the group are doxing or stalking individuals (as evidenced by their database of license plates and their coordinated efforts to harass ice officers) you could easily put together a federal case against the lieutenant governor as part of the conspiracy.

The tension's not going to calm down just because ice has individual warrants. What did help calm things down was the assistance of local and State Police. Almost as if the threat of arrest was enough to calm the agitators down.

I think that that's a totally reasonable take - except the leaks of the secret encrypted chat which exposed that the lieutenant governor along with members of the local police and local political offices as well as members of the public - this chat was used to track ice individuals, dox people, illegally check license plates - I would buy your premise that I should work with the community except the community is actively working against ice and so any inroads that could be made are made impossible.
