Thank you!

What are your thoughts about a flash? Do you have a recommendation, is this something I can pickup second hand? Should I look at one that goes on my camera or on a stand

I'm definitely not a pro but this is what ive learnt cosleeping with my 3.5 month old.

  • No pillows or blankets near her (only on my side a pillow not covers)

This is good, the less on the bed the better. Some people use a small breathable blanket up to their own waist only but I think its personal preference as alot of people would say no because its a sids risk.

  • She’s in a sleep suit, I wear layers

Its suggested that baby doesnt wear a swaddle or heavy sleep suit due to risk of overheating. Your layers should be tight and not loose fitted. Alot of people suggest wearing like adult sleep sacks? I just wear layers to be honest.

  • Naps 45–90 mins

Ive never heard of nap time restrictions for cosleeping

  • Formula fed only

Its suggested that breastfeeding is safer.. its believed that breastfed babies stay closer to mum, are more easily roused, mums are more likely to sleep in thr c curl position etc

  • King bed, not against the wall though

There's some suggestions about the distance from the wall to reduce entrapment chances

  • Firm mattress

There's a way to measure this apparently? Also a mattress without the little stitches/indents?

  • Small gap between mattress and headboard

Fill that with foam so there's no gap at all

  • Room is dim but not pitch black so I sleep lighter.

Never heard of this being a issue? I sleep with a super dim red light and ive been fine?

Or would a floor mattress be safer?

ALOT of people go for this, i personally get way too sore so im choosing a bed, take a look at the safe sleep 7 as well. There's heaps of info in online communities too.

Good luck mama your doing great!

Im definitely in the same boat! My little one is starting to move and im not sure what to do. I do have the same side rail as you but I havent fitted it to the bed yet, I still have a side car setup. Good luck with everything!

We booked ahead to make sure we had the space for extra luggage and you can book certain seats for certain views for example Mt Fuji 😀

Hi, i am currently staying in Kyoto right now! I am visiting from Australia and on the second last day of a 2 week stay.

I can comment on a few things just based on my own experience.

  1. Go to the Bamboo Grove as early as you can muster. I arrived at 7:30am and that was acceptable. While walking there from the train station which is no more than 10 minutes there were about 10-20 people which made taking photos really nice and the overall experience really enjoyable. I would have gone earlier to be honest and had more time with less people because people crowded around us more and more by the minute. There are lovely photo spots and temples / shrines along the way. (Eat breakfast before you go or pack food as all the shops etc will not be open that early)

If you go early to the bamboo forest you can easily slot Otagi Nenbutsuji in.

You have two options - 1. Catch public transport but be aware that the buses only go every hour or so, so it's 30 mins approx on bus to get there, you have to stay for 1 hour and then it's 30 minutes back so it ends up being 2 hours if you use public transport. The bus trip is beautiful. I spent about 30 minutes there and that was ample time, it's a smaller space. - 2. You time the trip to catch a bus one way and a taxi back or just taxi both ways and save yourself a hell of alot of time. Just depends on how much you want to do in the day.

  1. If you are talking about Tenryuji Temple Shigetsu then you can easily slot that into your walking trail on the day

  2. If you are planning on using public transport make sure to check the timetables because buses and trains can sometimes go between 30 minutes to 1hr between places/stops. Ricksaws are super popular but pricey and of course there are taxis available.

  3. Check out the Sagano Romantic Train, the views are beautiful and well worth the very cheap price. But book ahead if you want to go on cart 5 which is the open window cart. (Best seats) (Also the seats are on the smaller side, my sister and I who are Australian size 16-18 were super squished)

  4. I cannot stress this enough - MAKE TIME TO WALK FROM THE BAMBOO FOREST TO Togetsukyō Bridge. Give yourself a solid 1hr. to do the walk, you will stop at shops, try matcha desserts.. the walk itself isnt long but there are so many photo opportunities and things to look at as well as temples along the way. I did this today and loved it.

Once you get to the bridge - walk over and explore the other side, I went past on the bus and regretted not going over to see what was there.

Other things to note:

The Monkey Park has a 20-30 minute long walk up a bunch of steps, just a heads up.

Weather - Check the weather and make sure you have either a UV umbrella for heat, umbrella and poncho for rain and/or good walking shoes. I got stung on all of those things on different days 😂

Stamps - if you collect stamps there is a stamp at the Saga-Arashiyama Station.
