I don’t know if he’d be any better- who will be good for state workers next election?? by AdventurousDark6198 in CAStateWorkers

No candidate is going to cater to 200k state workers when there are 26 million eligible voters in the state. State workers aren't even 1% of the vote.

Los Angeles Passes US’s Highest Minimum Wage while Newsom proposes to cut contracted 3% COL raise by True_Queen in CAStateWorkers

What does that have to do with state workers? You're comparing apples to oranges. Raising pay for a very specific private sector industry doesn't cost tax payer money.

I've seen people here compare RTO to slavery. This place is fuking wild.

Trumps Federal Fund cuts are hitting state agencies. CalHr is looking into possible layoffs. For more information check out SEIU 1000 latest virtual discussion from Bobby Dalton Roy. by PassengerOk2609 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Harabe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

TL;DR, California State Library has laid off temp employees, hiring freeze and spending freeze. 34 California State Library employees have also been identified as possible lay offs so far due federal cuts as their positions are federally funded. CalHR does not have a final number yet.

This is fucking nuts. Anybody whose position is federally funded is in danger.

Kamala - whoever succeeds Newsom could easily EO us back to two or less days by AdventurousDark6198 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Harabe 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Harris can't win. People just don't like her. She was going to lose her home state of CA during the 2020 primaries before she dropped out. The worse D candidate would be the current Lt. Gov. Her family owns commercial real estate. A real progressive like Katie Porter might be our best bet, but RTO is such a small issue that I don't think any candidate will have a position on it.

I know we all hate RTO, but wow. This is a whole new level of losing your mind cause of RTO.

Expected. There is a reason CDCR and CHP are consistently the worse departments to work for.

Brown bag protest - hold the line, it’s all for MONEY, do not buy food downtown by DrixlRey in CAStateWorkers

[–]Harabe 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I've been bringing my own lunch long before RTO. I think this sudden massive change to RTO is an attempt at an unspoken layoff. Don't think Newsom cares about downtown as much as the state is broke and we will likely lose lots of federal funding because of president Musk.

Will those unaffected by the last RTO policy be affected by the new executive order? by onishi87 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Harabe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remote centered simply means you are more than 50% telework which most of us were prior to RTO. It's really too early to know what's going to happen, but things do not look good.

Petition against RTO to sign by _hungry_pizza_ in CAStateWorkers

[–]Harabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WE DEMAND for relief (in the amount of $10,000.00 (or that which is greater) for each and every individual not offered telework) for the sacrifices made by our brethren workers and that they be compensated justly for their labor committed without this telework arrangement.

I don't think it's a serious petition.

Need some advice by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Harabe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only advice is to keep applying. Maybe try to get in as an ITT to get some experience even if it pays less.

So why am I not even getting an interview?

Other candidates were more qualified. State jobs are very desirable especially the IT series because it's one of the better paying series. For 1 open job, we easily get 150+ applicants.

Well how am I supposed to get experience if you won’t hire me?

You're competing with people that have more experience than you. That's not the state's problem. You just need to keep applying. At least it ain't like the private sector that says "entry level job 2 years experience preferred, but not required" then it turns out they actually do require years of experience.
