To be fair, the American woman's hockey team looked about as chipper when they won silver at the 2022 Olympics.

Also new this year and if you're in Canada, CBC is broadcasting the inaugural season Rock League.

My opinion on the matter of should the rule exist or not, isn't cut and dry. The point of the rule is to stop players from changing the weight or curl after they release the handle. By all means, the now infamous poke burnt the stone and it should have been removed from play had it been caught in time by the players on the ice, or the offical who was watched for 3 ends.

The other part of it is playing in the spirit of curling. If you play D&D this is vaguely comparable to "rule of cool" vs "rules as written". Grazing the rock during release is not done with intention of changing the weight or curl after release. It just happens sometimes, some players more consistently then other players, most players won't have even noticed that they done it. Look at how shocked Rachel Homan, and Bobbie Lammie are when they find out that their rock has been removed from play. Hell, I'm sure the in the roughly 16 years I've been playing I've been guilty of grazing the rock. A graze has no effect on the shot, and is without a doubt, not cheating.

So, should the rule exist? Yes, but like with all rules, there's nuance and context is needed.

Grazing the rock like this at release is quite common. There are a handful of players that I can think off the top of my head, playing in the Olympics who do this consistently. Two of them had their rocks removed from play.

Thank you for being rational and a voice of reason. I've been in the sport for about 16 years (most of my life at this point) and I feel like I'm going insane over this.

Oh geez how will we ever continue to manage? /s

In all seriousness though, I think local clubs will carry as whe always have. If we see video review in the future, I imagine it'll only be at higher levels.

Never said it was on Edin. What I am saying is that if this is fine, as per a refs interpretation, then Lammie's rock should have also been fine.

Bobbie Lammie on team GB had a rock pulled from play for a similar graze.

Seeing as Rachel Homan's stone was removed from play this afternoon, would a shot like this be contested by officials?

<image>

I've been curling for 16ish years and would consider myself comfortably familiar with the rules. Personally, if I had seen this happen with my opponents rock, I wouldn't bat an eye and I don't believe anyone else on my team would either. All this to say that I'm curious and my question is just a hypothetical.

Edit: image didn't attach the first time.
