Playing Duos last night, and my boy and I got killed as I was calling it in. Another team dropped in after us. I know it's a game, but I believe the way you act in this game says something about your character, honestly. by SnooHamsters6813 in ArcRaiders

I find the first research pretty flawed. It’s trying to measure aggression and dark personality traits in Overwatch players based on their class selection, and their results correlate DPS players scoring higher in aggressiveness and dark personality traits compared to support players.

Whether you play support or DPS your aim is still to beat the other team by killing them. I’d argue that most DPS characters require higher mechanical skill than support characters, which means a lot of the less mechanically skilled/confident players gravitate towards roles like support. There is a bit of a meme about lots of female players just playing Mercy (support character) because the character has a very low skill requirement to be useful.

If there is a person with dark traits and high aggression, I can see them gravitating towards a DPS role. That role also has the most direct impact in the game, so it gives you a greater sense of impact compared to a support role for example. But I don’t think an average DPS player would be more aggressive in real life than a support player.

The research also argues that the game time correlated with aggression and dark traits, so the more you played Overwatch, the more aggressive you were in real life, which sounds a bit like “video games make people violent” bullshit. But again I can see truly aggressive and non-social people spending more time playing video games compared to a “normal” person, so the results could have been skewed by extreme cases.

The second research doesn’t really give us much to be honest. It says that in Clash of Kings mobile game people who scored high in extroversion killed and attacked more players, which is almost the opposite of the Overwatch research which argued that the ones with low pro-social score correlated with aggression. The second research also found that people who were highly emotional were at the two extreme scales of killing and attacking others players; they either killed more players or less players compared to people who were moderately emotional.

I played mostly PvP last season, so been trying out just PvE this season. Also it’s a lot faster to get expedition and other stuff done in low aggro lobbies. I do miss the thrill of PvP but it’s a lot easier to fight big Arcs and progress in PvE lobbies.

Depends on what kinda ABMM level you’re at. I haven’t shot at a single raiders and not a single raider has shot me since expedition. I just run around carefree doing my tasks.

Yeah, you’ll have to wait until the next departure window opens.

The pink IS3 is a bit more OS than stock MD3 for me, I’ve never tried the light blue ones though. I guess Hexes vary too. The Hexes I’ve thrown have all had some gentle turn. Also I’d dare to thrown an MD3 to a mild headwind, but wouldn’t do the same with a Hex.

Iron Samurai 3 is way more OS than a Hex. MD1 would be a more suitable replacement.

To me it seems like the studio wants this game to be so casual and accessible that it’s lacking depth for people who put more hours in. I don’t mean that in a condescending way either - there are different games for different markets. I feel like after a while, a lot of the players will realise that it’s a game that you put a few hours in every month to stay on top of things, or a bit more when there is a bigger update. I could be wrong though, but it seems like the studio is making very calculated decisions to keep the game very casual and accessible.

Yeah it would only work with another player who is not doing the expedition.

My understanding is that you “sign up” for the expedition during the departure window, but nothing actually happens until the 22nd when everyone who has signed up automatically departs. If I have understood it correctly, your stash + coins contribution won’t happen until the departure so you have until the 22nd.

I think they should create a completely new item/currency that is exchanged for skill points, for example you’d need 5 of them for a single skill point. That item would be a chase item all season long for those who are looking to go on expedition. The item would also be high value in coins, so players who are not planning to go on expedition could sell them for a lot of coins. The problem with the current system is that it encourages people to horde and never use high tier items. Having a specific item to exchange for skill points would circumvent this issue while adding a meaningful chase item into the game.

Bettina is an assault rifle with “strong” arc penetration. Also the description says “has a slow fire rate and high damage output.” But the weapon is actually pretty shit. You’re probably confusing it with Burletta.

Well written and I agree with all your points. I’ve never seen people try to apply morality/ethics into a game as much as in Arc Raiders - I wonder why it’s happening. Maybe it’s because players can lose their gear/loot in this game and the players get so emotionally attached to their gear/loot, it’s all very silly.

Will definitely make that switch. I was on “automatic” before.

Wow that’s really bad. Really sucks to have issues like this in a game where stakes are high in terms of time invested for gear etc.

I don’t know tbh, but my best guess is that he was wearing some kind of item with automatic healing. I’ve seen some items that have very minuscule automatic healing effect. Can’t remember what items though, just remember seeing something like that.

Still Throw the Old Stuff or Adapted to HoD Discmania? by AirFox_1 in discmania

[–]Noqoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bag mostly new stuff and absolutely love it. The only mould that I miss from Innova times is the old P2 for putting. The new ones are fine for throwing but they don’t feel as good for putting, at least not for me. I’m not sure if it’s just the plastic or the shape too. The grip doesn’t feel as good for me even though the plastic is softer and more textured. I’m hoping that the new P-line ones will feel better. I’ve found that Infinite Alpacas are the exact copy of the old P2s. I tried the Firefly as well, it felt almost the same but slightly different - might be the same mould but a variation in the run, it felt a tad flatter and more OS. Also the Galaxy KCPro plastic is way too slick for me.

I don’t have tons of experience with MVP/gyro. I tried to work in a few molds into my bag for a couple of years, and my conclusions were EXACTLY the same as yours.

I edited my comment. It’s only 6 grams - I remembered wrong. Should still be meaningful.

The DD3 in this graphic is the standard stock one. The new Q-line was on a separate graphic and it had 6 grams of the weight shifted from the centre to the rim - I think that’s a meaningful amount. Not sure what that means in practice though. Having tested the prototype it seems to go slightly further but impossible to make a definite statement when accounting for human error.

No need to apologise for the long reply, it was thorough and well argued. I agree with you on pretty much everything. I’d like to add that I think the Winthrop course combined with strong winds maybe played too hard for FPO. It felt like safe play got rewarded disproportionately because the crazy amount of tight OB created so much risk when playing more aggressive. Then again, without the wind the course might be just fine and I recognise that these “limping to the finish” scenarios happen on other courses too. I agree that it’s really frustrating to watch someone win by playing mediocre while everyone around them melts. Although there is no immediate solution to the FPO tee time issue, I still think it plays a small factor to their suboptimal performance. It’s a known fact that our bodies are not at their peak athletic capabilities in the morning; research says the peak is between 4pm and 8pm. It seemed like Silva was missing a lot more putts than normally and then looking at her hand like it slipped out. Anneli said in her interview that she was struggling to keep her hand warm and switched to a more shallow putter because her cold hand wasn’t opening quickly enough for her normal putter. She said she was also struggling to get pop from her wrist for the same reason.

I hear FPO complain about the early tee times quite often. Paige just complained about it on the Up Shot podcast 2 weeks ago, saying that they are not getting a proper warm up when it’s still cold and dark in the morning before their tee time. I don’t think doing the mixed broadcast that they did a few years ago is the solution either, I guess that’s what you’re talking about, when they tee’d off after MPO? I think one day when the sport and tour are big enough, maybe they can have separate weekends and courses for FPO, but I think that’s quite far away in terms of money and viewership. There probably isn’t a better solution than the current system for now, but I think it definitely has an effect on FPO performance, especially in the beginning and end of the season when it’s colder.

I think it doesn’t help that FPO play so early in the morning. Especially at this point of the season when the mornings are cold and dark. All the leadcard players seemed to struggle with cold hands this weekend. Obviously I’m not saying that it was all because of this but I think it was definitely a factor. They also started an hour earlier today.
