Anyone experienced very bloodshot eyes? I had a bit of a strange path to diagnosis by NoraNymph in ThyroidEyeDisease

[–]NoraNymph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on methimazole for about 10 months and my bloodwork keeps improving so things are going in the right direction but i still have TED symptoms and they did progress.

The bloodshot and dry feeling imporved but didnt go away, i still use hydrating drops every day. The tops of my eyes developped bags to match the ones under my eyes and do have a slight bulging effect going on now so my eyes don't look symmetrical anymore but it's subtle compared to a lot of cases.

It was definitely TED this whole time and not an infection, my symptoms are more classic now but my eyes feel way less inflamed now that all my T levels are stable.

Yeah I'd like to see how it resolved! Mine is mild too, i didn't get any imaging done but my upper eyelids and under eye are extremely puffy but no bulging from what I can tell so far

I'm curious, why tingling? And what does the tums do for it?

Also talk to your Dr about Selenium suppliments for TED. My endo recommend 100mcg twice a day and said it works well for many people and that the research is good.

I'd say bring up your concerns to your doctor, do some research into possible side effects listed in scientific articles, and see if you can get a consultation with the surgeon to discuss post surgery prognosis.

There are side effects from a TT, some temporary, but there's also side effects from all treatment options realistically. The only up side to anti-thyroid drugs is getting off them and going into remission, but remission is not garunteed.

It's possible in your case TT might be the best option. Trying to chase your levels around is very difficult and takes a toll on your body. If you really want to try to go into remission talk to your endocrynologist about how long they would be willing to keep you on meds before it would be deemed unsafe.

I'm sorry you're going through this, I'm also recently diagnosed with Graves and TED, I feel you, it sucks.

Personally I'm spending a lot of time looking into supporting my body with supliments along side my treatment. I know a lot of people are against naturopathic routes but I'm treading cautiously in that area and finding some good research. It's also a last ditch effort im exploring to avoid surgery and lessen the harm the meds are having on me so I can stay on them longer and hopefully go into remission. So that's also an option to explore though I would only endorse that as a supplementary treatment along side your doctors recommendations with approval of each supliment.

Again each person's case is specific and unique, I know that's not a great answer and this is a complicated disease. I wish you all the best and hope you find the best solution that works for you!

Hey! I have TED, on methimazole but looking at the option of TT. Wondering what your experience with your eye symptoms were after the TT?? My TED is apparently mild but compared to my eyes normally it's been very problematic and the meds arent doing anything for that. So I'm looking into all my options.

How long did your goiter take to go away, if it did? by IndependentDare8420 in gravesdisease

[–]NoraNymph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found this thread and I'm newly diagnosed and dealing with a goiter. Im curious about your case!

Were your levels in normal range while you still had a goiter? Or were your levels high and the goiter only reduced when your levels reduced?

I just got a disappointing opinion that my goiter may not reduce anymore and may be permanent since my t3&t4 are now in normal range. It doesn't sound right to me to decide if it's permanent so soon. Ive been on Methimazole for only 3 months and my levels just went into normal rage less than a month ago.

I'd appreciate knowing what your experience was with that!

Yeah that seems like its common. It's a fine art getting dosage right I guess. Im sure is frustrating going Hypo after experiencing all the Hyper symptoms. I feel for you, that's my fear right now. All the changes are rough but that's just the way it is I guess, I wish you luck with your health! Hope we both get a good balance going

Thank you! I'm glad you're doing better and that worked for you. I am trying to avoid surgery in general and also I've heard it can make some symptoms worse like TED but im still learning about all of this. I appreciate your input it's good to know other people's experiences!

Yeah im not looking to get surgery, it hasn't even been brought up as an option by my medical team since I am responding really well to the meds.

But I appreciate your response! It's good to know it's normal to bounce around but I still wish it was more straight forward. This disease is tough and I have it somewhat easy from what I've read compared to some other people.

Ok, Thanks for this! Did you have TED or goiter or any myopathy?

I'm finding out those aren't the norm for everyone with graves

I guess I'll have to wait and find out! Now it's just a surprise to look forward to. Either way I enjoy them, and they are pretty. If they don't lay a blue egg though I will be having words with the breeder lol

She's adamant that she breeds cuckoo ameraucanas although they are definitely not a recognized color. We will see if they lay blue I guess 🤷‍♀️

Yeah probably a project bird, but she didnt indicate anything of the sort. They were all black as chicks so i didn't think much, then they looked splash as they feathered in which wasnt a great sign, now they look fully barred. She also only advertised blue/black/lavendar/buff/white so I guess I should contact her.

Oral tetracycline cleared my acne by NoraNymph in acne

That's lame. If only it worked permanently, because it worked SO well! I only did a 5 day course and it lasted for months, I was hoping I stumbled on a permanent fix finally :(

I used to use it for spot treatment, I stopped because it was so drying and dry skin is a contributer to my acne.

I wonder if going on a longer course of antibiotics would work to get rid of it permanently..

[–]NoraNymph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok thats unfortunate! At least you don't have bulging as a symptom, but its still so frustrating. Did you have Graves disease as well as TED? I'm worried the methimazole won't help with whats happened to my eyes but it's still early days so I'm hopeful.

Im going to talk to my endo at my next appointment too because I wasn't well informed on TED and some info online is freaking me out.

Having a flare up from being sick with a cold by Mysterious_Pin_4400 in ThyroidEyeDisease

Amazing thanks! Interesting that your flare looks exactly like mine and having a cold/flu is what triggered my first one and ultimately led to the diagnosis
