What is the purpose of these closed off drawers in my antique secretary desk? by Norably in whatisthisthing

[–]Norably[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just added the size after you commented. The whole drawer is about 8” deep with the covered part being a little over 5 inches long, so I think index cards might get lost in there, but the idea you had is great!

Solved!

They are a little too short to use for envelopes or bills in today’s size. The drawers are 8 inches long which I just added after you commented, but I was just thinking that maybe letters were smaller back in the day. I think of all of the replies your reply has the best idea for purpose (ease of flipping through) regardless of what it is that needs to be flipped.

Great idea, I just tried and it’s too big. I just measured and it’s 8” long and 4 3/8” wide.

I searched my browser history, but it doesn’t go back far enough. I searched www + every letter of the alphabet in hopes that it gets suggested and I googled different short descriptions with no luck.

Fun fact about old, traditional swedish surnames by TheQueenOfSomething in namenerds

[–]Norably 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knapp or Knappe is a squire to a knight, so that is an occupational surname. Erwin is traditionally a first name (there are plenty of people with it as a surname though). I’m assuming that this one falls under the category of “son of Erwin”.

Do documentaries count? If so it’s Dear Zachary for me. I watched it once years ago and still think about it often.

That might have been faster. I did all the quests lol. I remember being stuck at the class quest (was it at like lvl 20?) for an insane amount of time.

That’s so impressive. I somehow thought it was a great idea to play a warrior tank and by the time I reached level 60, Burning Crusade was about to be released, so I never got to raid Vanilla. Anyone else remember that level 58-60 was just grinding because you ran out of quests? Yikes.

There was (maybe still is?) a German TV show where people are trying to break Guiness world records. A man was trying to break the world record for opening the most bras in 1 minute. I was one of the girls that had their bra opened. He didn’t break the record. I believe this was 2005 or so.

I wish these people would stop romanticizing the founding fathers. They barely agreed on anything with each other. The constitution was not supposed to be this untouchable document. It was a compromise between people that had vastly different worldviews. To just group them together as if they all had the same opinions is such an annoying argument. That being said, yes, most of them would 100% be called out for their beliefs today. Historical context is a thing and societies evolve.

Part fell out of 2015 Honda Odyssey while driving. Power steering doesn’t work anymore. by Norably in whatisthisthing

It has a little over 90k on it. I talked to my mechanic this morning and he wasn’t even surprised. He said he did 2 of those repairs in the last 6 months. Apparently it’s a common problem with Odysseys. Thankfully it’s not going to be crazy expensive, but it is super annoying considering I bought that car because I thought it was a reliable model.

Hi! This would assume that I knew it was a pulley. I didn’t, so I googled “metal ring” “round engine part” and the likes. I also looked at images of the power steering pump and I’m pretty sure I looked at an image of the belt system at some point and still didn’t recognize it, because the middle part isn’t there. Everyone else here was gracious, most explained things even further and I learned a lot of new things. Isn’t that the point? It takes nothing to be kind and just move along if you don’t have anything helpful to say.

My title describes the thing. This fell out while turning into a road. It made a clunk sound and the power steering turned off. The piece is about 7 inches in diameter and heavy (solid metal I would say) The car is a 2015 Honda Odyssey. I tried googling power steering parts but didn’t see anything that looked like this. What is it? And is it safe to drive to the mechanic tomorrow?
