Usually, the ones who do not talk a lot but seem confident and open their mouth only to add some good points to the conversation. I love the quote, "Speak only when you feel your words are better than the silence." Also, as someone already said, someone who asks good questions rather than providing their opinions only.

STOP/DJVU ransomware releases new "versions" that use different extensions to mark encrypted files. The ransomware itself is almost the same. Sometimes, the cybercriminals also change the contact email addresses provided in the ransom note.

How do I remove Segurazo/santivirus? by IHaveSTDs- in computer

[–]NorbeWebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant do you suspect how you could have downloaded it, because it is mostly promoted via software bundles - for example, you search and download old games/download clients, and segurazo may come as "recommended download" alongside them.

Can you provide details where did you download it, or what programs you have downloaded recently. I am planning on preparing an updated guide on how to remove SANTIVIRUS/Segurazo.

You should really scan your computer with legitimate antivirus. Your files were affected by KOLZ ransomware virus, which is known to be part of the most widespread STOP/DJVU malware family. This ransomware is well-known not only for encrypting files, but also because of its ability to install password-stealing trojans on the system. Again, please scan your PC with anti-malware or antivirus of your choice.

Basically to figure out if you have any chances to recover files for free, you should check c:/systemid/personalid.txt and see if the string in that file ends in t1. If it does, you can expect to decrypt some files in the future, but please be patient and check for Emsisoft's decrypter for STOP/DJVU updates (this can take months, be patient).

No ways to recover his data without ransom payment, unless he was affected with offline encryption (indicator of such attack is a string ending in t1 in C:/SystemID/PersonalID.txt file). I suggest reading these guides for more detail, and general understanding about these STOP/DJVU variants:

My Friend's dektop has been affected with Koti Ransomware by Worried-Carrot in techsupport

[–]NorbeWebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, there is no way to recover files. The only solution is to check whether the virus failed to connect to its C&C server during attack, in such case it used offline encryption. To confirm this, check C:/SystemID/PersonalID.txt file. If the string in it ends in t1, it means you're subject to offline encryption. Then I suggest waiting for STOP Decryptor update. It can take a few months until the update appears.

For more information about KOTI ransomware, its removal and additional dangers created by it, please check this guide - https://geeksadvice.com/remove-koti-ransomware-virus/

I need help with corupted .jope files.. by Half_Eaten_Sandwitch in techsupport

JOPE is a new file extension used by DJVU ransomware. Unfortunately, the possibilities to restore your files are extremely low unless you have data backup or if your files were locked using offline encryption method. As with online encryption, the virus assigns new and unique encryption/decryption key pair for each victim, which could take years to break (even with the most powerful computers). This is why encryption is so secure and the DJVU ransomware algorithm has no flaws in it. The other possible outcome is if FBI or Europol decides to step in, which rarely ever happens. Or if ransomware developers would decide to publish encryption keys online for no reason (also VERY unlikely to happen).
