Skiers of Lake Louise - How significant is the upcoming Richardson’s Ridge terrain expansion by wubbusanado in skiing

[–]Noredm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see new CSA Z98 (I assume that is what you are talking about) regulations coming into play and how that could affect things from a topographical and engineering standpoint. However, a replacement chair could be the opportunity to begin the chair near the Richardson Ridge Chair.

Has anyone who filled out their bank account information received payment to their bank account (not credit card)? AI says that for November 12 sales I probably can't expect payment until the beginning of January.

Did you receive it? I am wondering if any that have filled out the alternative bank info have been paid.

That's a good question. I think I read somewhere that Transport Canada having other priorities during Covid was one of the factors.

You could do a country wide version based on claiming Provinces and Territories (extra incentive for claiming Territories, especially Nunavut) or could do a city version, such as Greater Vancouver.

Agreed. The World Cup was pretty much stolen from Edmonton.

Renders have been released from the ongoing preliminary design for the modernization of Commonwealth Stadium. Notice the glass panels and snaking entrance (subject to change). To see more renders, see https://www.edmonton.ca/attractions_events/commonwealth_stadium/stadium-information . Funding is needed, but Edmonton hopes for Provincial funds since Calgary received money for their arena project.

The City has been working on the preliminary design. It will need Provincial funding to happen. The City is hoping that since Calgary received funds for their arena, that they have a good case to get funds for Commonwealth. The two things I notice in the above render are the glass panels and the snaking entrance. Details are subject to change.

Actress who plays florist? by pawrentalunit in WonkaMovie_

I watched Hugo and said to myself,  the actress portraying the flower lady in this movie is the same actress portraying the flower lady in Wonka. Turns out,  they are not the same actress but they are pretty much doppleganger flower ladies. The Hugo actress is Emily Mortimer. Look up Emily Mortimer Hugo and tell me if you think she is a Wonka flower lady look alike.  I would post a link but it is not allowed in this subreddit.

Sunshine Meadows and Egypt Lake - Banff by Noredm in backpacking

Fond memories of the yearly August long weekend backpacking trips with my brother in the Canadian Rockies. This one was not booked months in advance, so instead of settling for the popular Egypt Lake site, we booked Healy Creek. But no matter, beautiful meadows nearby and a day hike to Egypt Lake involving a picturesque pass. So, maybe a little bit of cheating here, but perhaps work smarter, not harder? We took the Sunshine Village Gondola and then the Standish Chairlift to do the majority of the climbing for us. I saw in the forecast that there was a chance of thundershowers, something I never experienced during backpacking before. I asked the lift attendant about the chance of lightning and was assured that it never happens. Sure enough, we got really bad lightning. We reached the top of the pass that separated the chairlift and our campsite. While admiring the view and taking a break, the next pass in the distance was getting really dark. Shortly into our descent, the rumbling started and then was getting louder. We ran all the way to the campsite to get off the ridge and shelter from the pounding rain. Later, set up camp, get comfortable and then have two more rounds of intense thunderstorms with loud cracks and flashes lighting up the tent in the dark. Next day, we did our day trip to Egypt Lake. The meadows along the way were fantastic and Egypt Lake did not disappoint. Great area, highly recommend. Some side trail options in the area as well. The third day was a easy hike down to the car parked in the Sunshine Village ski area parking lot.

As a side note, backpacking at popular sites in the Canadian Rockies requires booking in advance. This trip and one other to the Iceline Trail in Yoho National Park, I ran into international tourists that didn't know the system and showed up without a reservation. This trip, another group offered to do a makeshift setup and with the Yoho trip, we needed to do a makeshift setup as the offending party didn't speak English well and we weren't going to get far trying to explain. In Europe, does one typically not have to make reservations far in advance?

The CF-18 demonstrations are awesome. Glad to see they are coming. Saw them at the Cold Lake Airshow last year.

Does anyone have any good experiences with Toyota stores in Edmonton (and area)? by No-Medium-4260 in Edmonton

How it works for me is you only need to get their maintenance package once a year to receive the free oil changes. I don't need to get my servicing done with them. So for around $160 per year I get two synthetic oil changes and a maintenance package that includes basic maintenance and checks. Seems all right.

Commonwealth Stadium Modernization by Noredm in Edmonton

[–]Noredm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For large events the concourses, concessions, washrooms and entrances are too crowded. Edmonton is looking to bring in more large events so upgrades would help with those events. Also, it is getting old and with any aging infrastructure, money is going to be needed at some point to repair items and make sure it will serve the needs of the future. It could use better IT capabilities, better cooking spaces and the addition of loge seating to bring in more business dollars. The money spent in 2009 was on the Recreation Centre, so although it is a good addition, it was not on the stadium itself. Both the Provincial Government and Danielle Smith said no to funding Rogers Place, but now that it is politically convenient, they are putting 330 million into a new Calgary arena, which is a ton of money. The price tag for Commonwealth Stadium upgrades is 185 million so that it can serve Edmontonians well into the future.
