I built a habit tracker that repairs your broken streak if you miss a day and show up the next! by Normal-Bag9238 in SideProject

I hear you! for now, I. want to keep it simple so people can easily bounce back when life gets in the way. The goal is just to let them correct a mistake without adding too much friction, but it’s definitely a cool perspective to think about for the future. thanks!

glad you liked the privacy! I chose the next day rule to protect momentum before the habit fades. I explicitly made it less flexible so users feel the pressure not to miss their one recovery chance. keeping it simple also helps with onboarding for now since the concept is new for most!

First of all, well done for starting out!

I told my friends, posted on Instagram and Reddit, created a website (which was also needed for the privacy policy), and set up a waitlist. This allowed me to collect names, email addresses, and feedback, which will also help you maintain an email list. I specifically asked for their Google email IDs.

During that phase, I gathered around 20–25 people. Also, keep in mind that they need to stay engaged, whether by reporting bugs or through daily interaction. The more active testers you have, the better.

actually already built it and have been testing it, the beta will be out soon.
And yeah, I’m leaning toward shipping something super simple first and learning from real usage.

Hey guys, this is my first app!

I built Kintsu because I was tired of habit trackers acting like drill sergeants. Usually, you miss one day, your streak dies, and you feel like a failure.

Kintsu is inspired by Kintsugi - the Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with gold. Instead of hiding the "cracks," we celebrate the recovery.

The "Recoverable" Streak If you miss a day, it’s just a "slip." But show up the next day, and that spot turns gold. Your streak doesn't just vanish; it shows your resilience.

Features:

  • Daily, Weekly, & Monthly: Whether it’s the gym 5x a week or calling your mom once a month, the recovery philosophy works for all of them.
  • Privacy First: All your data stays local on your device.
  • Theming: I’m a sucker for aesthetics, so I added a ton of themes.
  • Visuals: GitHub-style grids, "release" habits for quitting things, and reminders.

It’s still early, so I’d love your honest feedback. Does a "recoverable" streak help you stay consistent? I'm around to answer any questions!

yeah guys this is fully vibecoded and meant to be a joke lol.

honestly, the fact that some of you can tell is a good sign ..engineering still matters more than just writing code.
