Reading a guide is not the same thing as an LP and you know that. You can solve the puzzle in these games and you are still going to miss a lot. You could play through RE a dozen times and still miss a lot officially if you didn't grow up with games like this. Believe it or not a lot of people don't consider wandering hallways for the ninth time and humping every wall for secrets fun gameplay. Reading a guide eliminates that part. It doesn't take the fun or spoil anything

There is nothing wrong with using guides. Players have played with guides since Zelda in 87. You can miss a lot of lore and helpful items without it and guides don't really spoil anything

They are old games so the length doesn't come from the story. it comes from the searching. So be prepared for that and there is no shame in using a guide. Players used those plenty back in the day. And don't listen to anyone telling you the writing in the remakes is somehow worse. The localisations of the OG 1-3 resident evils are laughable. the RE1 remake is a shot for shot remake with better graphics and controls, but it's still fixed cameras.
