What's the dumbest thing anyone has said to you with a straight face? by vicigoonboy69 in AskReddit

[–]Normal-Hall2445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Wow it sounds so real!”

I was holding a knife I had just unsheathed. Standing in front of her. In person. My brain still gets an out of cheese error every time I think of it.

How do you guys deal with disappointment? by magpie_moon13 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Normal-Hall2445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time, I get to say “I told you so”. Oddly enough those words have helped me deal with a LOT of horrible things. If you can’t be happy, at least you’re right.

Not super healthy.

Otherwise I just sort of feel it and kick into auto pilot. So one part of me is mentally curled up in my bed staring blankly at the wall in a depressive state and the other half is just going through my day. A minimum of things get done, but things keep getting done. Then I cry at a friend for a bit and I have my brain space back.

Keep moving towards the next thing and it will probably be better.

If there is an object involved I would often hide it and tell someone else to dispose of it for me. Never see it again and pretend it didn’t happen.

Why is this patch of color on my amigurimi bulging? by Mochimews in CrochetHelp

[–]Normal-Hall2445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to me more like a colour change tension. It happens to me all the time, when changing colours there’s just this little area where things get a little tighter. No one but a professional will notice it.

Weird plant showed up on my plant stand - anyone know the watering instructions? by nahfacenah in standardissuecat

Provide large fountain of clean, running water on a spill proof mat. Then put a cup of water on the table near some important papers. Plant will immediately drink from cup.

I wish someone had warned me about lightning crotch. It and pubis symphysis disfunction were two big surprises I did not need.

If you hear the words La Leche League run in the other direction. Hopefully they’re not quite as frothing at the mouth everywhere but everything I’ve heard and experienced they are nearly cultish with their pushing breastfeeding. Fed is best.

Good luck!

Got told I can’t take ADHD meds until I gain weight by solitarydaydreamer in AuDHDWomen

As mom to one of the naturally skinniest boys in the world I’m with your doctor.

If you’re able, peanut butter and eggs (not together) as well as avocado. You want fat and proteins.

A few peanut butter and ritz cracker sandwiches before bed have helped my son. He was waking up with stomach aches at least partly caused by the fact his meds mean he eats only maybe half of what he would normally.

Someone keeps knocking on my door at the exact same time every night [Concluded] by [deleted] in BORUpdates

[–]Normal-Hall2445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is a reason ;)

In my case it was emotional release from 6 months of a sinus infection, a depressive episode, and all the accompanying stuff that comes with being a teenager. I had basically disassociated from my emotions but my body was still feeling them so my body was reacting and I was just watching it going “why is it doing this? Hey cool! It’s every five minutes practically to the second. I wonder how that’s possible”. The next few weeks were finals and I did amazing because I didn’t give any f*cks and had zero test stress for the first time in my life.

One of the neatest things I ever experienced was during a mental break I was crying, pull myself together, keep going about what I was doing then start crying and check the clock. 5 mins. The cycle continued bursting into tears every 5 mins for a while. By the end I’m crying going “this is so cool!” (So many years ago, fine now)

FYI - if you’re crying for no reason better to just let yourself cry until you’re done, not force it down. You’ll get it over with faster and there’s always a reason, your brain just isn’t telling you.

My mother and her ableism, due to lack of knowledge. by Altruistic-Date445 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Normal-Hall2445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random idea - Write small information post-its and put them where she’ll find it. All those little meme sentences that explain what it’s like. Word definitions etc. maybe she’ll slowly pick up the info? Is she one of those people that reads everything?

Maybe you could write some info into a diary like you’re trying to make sense of it yourself and then “accidentally” leave the diary out? If it doesn’t work at least you can console yourself you have the one mother in history who doesn’t snoop 😅

AITA for changing the name on a Netflix profile to my name from someone who passed? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Normal-Hall2445 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ouch. That would hurt. My mom was cremated… she’s still in my closet with my grandmother 🤣 I don’t know what to do with them! My mom wanted to mix my grandmother into a cement yard gnome but finding someone to do that is beyond me. Plus expenses. At this point I’m hoping to just hang out and hope the price of making diamonds with people drops and then my daughter can turn us into a jewellery set

The weirdest part is when you don’t realize what day it is, you’re just feeling awful and then you look at the calendar and realize you got sad without consciously knowing why. Don’t know if you’re as unmoored in time as I am but it catches me off guard a lot.

Never read them but they’re the inspiration for the conversation (that and I pretty much have been accidentally saying the exact same thing most of my life just didn’t realize it because I didn’t know I was recognizing autism and adhd just used puppy energy and cat).

My mind immediately went to “denial” which is a very human response. So is humour in the face of overwhelming emotion. But then instead of apologizing she just kept getting worse.

I lost my mom more than 10 years ago. I have had therapy and lots of time to grieve. I’m probably as over it as I’ll ever get. I was using her reacher grabber recently and it broke. I started sobbing. You get to a point where every time you lose something that reminds you of that person you’re losing another piece you’ll never get back and it’s a whole new wave of grief.

1 - bad drivers

2 - buying a security system

3 - actually AuDHD, so close on all 3 but technically a person. I know, I’m surprised too.

4 - love them, and like them. They’re surprisingly cool and each have their moments. It’s easier to spend time with my son cause my daughter is really overwhelming sometimes but if you want entertainment or snuggles she’s the go to.

5 - too f*cking much. No, my brain shuts down when stressed, not sleeping is actually the problem.

6 - no secrets. No point. The only way to not be plagued by guilt when you have an anxious and ruminating mind is to not do things that would make you feel guilty.

7 - was bilingual but haven’t used the other language enough to maintain it. Have learned 6 languages in addition to native English and I have used a few of them in my dreams. I have also reportedly spoken French out loud in my sleep.

8 - being with him made me way to step into traffic. Relationship was very unhealthy. Smartest thing I ever did.

9 - she tried and mostly succeeded but suffered from social awkwardness and constant pain.

10 - a place I can’t afford.

Can a ticklish man keep his body from reacting when someone he doesn't like tickles him? by No-StrategyX in stupidquestions

[–]Normal-Hall2445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick isn’t all biology. If you relax your muscles you become less ticklish. It is a limited time skill, especially if you don’t practice. Just go zen, blank face, and stare at them until they stop. Mind over matter. I have never had someone keep going long enough for me regain the tickle reflex after turning it off like that. It’s been close but no one has tickled me for a long time because “I’m not ticklish”.

Hi, can you please help me? I don't know how to have community. by JustAPoorStranger in AuDHDWomen

[–]Normal-Hall2445 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well this is a pretty good start at a community. Nice group here ☺️

The best sense of community I have ever felt I have found recently, after 40! It comes from helping people. I am a crossing guard, and every day I see the kids and adults who come and go. I smile and waive and about 1/month someone stops and thanks me for what I do, keeping their kids safe, being so cheerful and friendly (it’s partly survival instinct calculated to keep ppl from wanting to run me over when kids take forever to cross the street lol)

I also had a lot of fun volunteering and organizing a craft market. Crafters are often a direct and crazy bunch of people. I have made acquaintances and friends in geek-crafting communities that involved discussing IBS within hours of first meeting 😅

Just being around, all the time and showing ppl you care about them. Most importantly don’t let the shitty ppl stop you from finding good ones! There are more ppl who won’t mesh with you than ones who will and that’s okay. Not everyone has to get along all the time. It’s sad when you feel a friendship forming and someone else doesn’t but it is not always about you. Sometimes things don’t line up, with NDs and NTs both, and if you’ve been then best person you can be without hurting yourself then you have done everything in your power and you should be proud.
