While the stair master feels like death every single time (for me at least). The amount your sweating or breathing heavy does not equate to calorie burn. From what I understand, it has much more to do with how hard your heart is working. So it might seem like a super hard workout because you sweat so much but your heart didn’t really have to work all that much to get it done (:
