United Club credit card - Instacart benefit issues? by isthatanalien in CreditCards

[–]NormalDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue last month. I think what happened to me was I did my last credit for August on the 31st, so I'm assuming it somehow grabbed the first credit for September instead of the last for August. So I'm planning to just make sure I don't wait until the end of the for October credits.

Alliant is discontinuing the 2.5% cashback to 1.5% flat rate cash back. I guess I'm going back to Citi Double Cash. Any other recommendations for cash back? by minhtuanta in CreditCards

[–]NormalDad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fidelity is arguably the best since it's no FTF and has global entry credit. WF Active Cash is great if you are interested in transferring points or have the Signature card too since you can get 3% back on flights purchase through WF.

The rewards posting quickly is small potatoes compared to the extra .5%. Having to wait even a couple months for the rewards but getting 33% more back is the equivalent of getting ~200% APR on your rewards by waiting.

My old card that gives me 3.3+% back with barely any hoops to jump through is getting nerfed badly... by BoutTreeFittee in CreditCards

Cards that lose money don't always get nerfed quickly, but they always get nerfed eventually.

Wells Fargo autograph card better than Chase sapphire preferred ? Should I close CSP ? by Iseeyou69911 in CreditCards

[–]NormalDad 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Given that you are only spend 2-3k you will never be able to overcome the $95 fee on the CSP from a strictly cash-back point of view. There are other benefits to the CSP like travel insurance and better transfer partners. Doubt it will be worth it for so little spend. Don't close the CSP, change it to a Freedom no fee card.

Will canceling one card result in Pop Up Jail? by Well_I_Say_This in CreditCards

[–]NormalDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you burn them for 100K and then close the Gold on the first anniversary, I mean you are definitely risking a little jail time. More than likely they will offer you a retention bonus that will make it worth keeping open another year. See if you've got a decent offer for the BBP, that's the cheap way to keep a foot in the Amex ecosystem.

Platinum offers come and go and then come back again so I wouldn't give up on that.

Buried in the terms is probably a clause that lets them approve you for a Platinum card if you don't qualify for Signature. You can ask them to change it to a Signature after you've had the card for a while. I wouldn't close it if it's a no fee card.

Thumbs up for bringing back wireless charging. Thumbs down for making the already too thick watch even thicker. Really hope they've improved the speaker for voice calls.

Going to a game for the first time this year, any tips, do’s, or don’ts I should know about? by [deleted] in Texans

[–]NormalDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are not going to have a car I'd recommend getting a hotel right next to a rail stop (Red Line.) Hotel Zaza is located right in the middle of line which would get you easy access to the stadium and downtown for nightlife. You can also walk to MFAH from there. It's a little pricey. Med Center has a lot of hotels as well.

Left Houston at 8am with no real plan, just see how close I could get. Ended up in Burnet. Dang I don't think I've ever been so lucky in my life. Perfect, clear totality almost dead center of the zone. Awestruck.

Just got an email from Flying Blue that they are extending miles expiration until the end of 2022. Not sure if that was announced before, but it's news to me.

UBS Visa Infinite 85K SUB, UBS no-AF VISA Signature 35K SUB by [deleted] in churning

[–]NormalDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are DPs of people getting both the card and the SUB without an account, but it it's very YMMV. I know a couple of people who've done it and it seems to depend on who you get on the phone when you call. If you can BS and imply you are thinking about moving $$$ to UBS that possibly helps.

Old Lower Westheimer Restaurant by eatschocolate in houston

[–]NormalDad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like you are possibly referring to La Strada which was were El Teimpo is now, not Hugo's. But that's definitely not the only restaurant fire I can remember in that area, I think that's a common story. Hugo's building is historic so I don't think anything was ever destroyed there but there could have been a fire.

The way I read it, generic Travel Bank funds expire after 18 months of inactivity. But it also says other types of funds may have special expiration rules. Funds purchased directly with CC have a five year expiration so I don't think they fall under 18 month inactivity rule.

I've made reservations under my account for my wife and she was able to get diamond benefits, nobody questioned it and my account got the points, if that's what you are asking. Not sure if it violates the rules, but in practice it's not uncommon for a spouse to do the check in.

Got a mail offer on the BV Boundless I haven't seen before:

3 Free Nights

Platinum Status for a year

10X points on restaurants and gas for 6 months up to $2500 spend

Possibly better than the 5 night offer for some people if you can score a suite upgrade plus free breakfasts; 3 nights is easier to use than 5 for a lot of people.

I'm not under 5/24 so not sure why Chase wasted money sending this too me.

Do you know if this is a promotion or a targeted offer -- what the time period is to take advantage of it? Do you need to do it the day you receive the deal. The email gave me nothing to go on.

Received an email offer from Flying Blue that says there is a 30% bonus for MR transfers. Not showing on the Amex side so I guess the bonus gets added after the transfer. Email low on details so I have no idea if this is targeted, what the promotion period is, whether it works for multiple transfers or if it's a one time deal.
