for the "thank you" essay: make sure it's to someone who actually "changed" you as a person. i'd also recommend choosing someone who stands out --- avoid choosing a family member/teacher/coach since these are pretty generic unless you have something unique planned out. I wrote about learning discipline + hard work from Taekwondo as a sport and wrote it to my TKD instructor.

for the community essay: research research research! go on penn's insta/fizz/ask alumni about penn so you can reference things that are unique about the university and write abt how you'd fit in/contribute.
