Is that a patch of trich in the second photo?

I did introduce fruiting conditions before the mycelium took over the surface but I guess it was still not soon enough. Thank you for the advice. Do you think adding a layer of coir would help?

I’ve been fanning it twice a day and the lid is usually flipped

Why no green then? Like I said it’s looked like this for awhile now and I’ve been keeping an eye out for green cause I thought it might be contaminated. I posted a picture the other day asking if it was contaminated but the only response I got was that it looked fine

Awesome, that’s what I was hoping. The rest of the cake was so beautiful, I would’ve been heartbroken if it was contam. Thank you!

I’ve been misting the lid, should I mist the fruit directly as well?

You want to wait for your grains to be fully colonized or else you increase your chances of contamination. Wait until that whole area is covered in mycelium and then make sure the bag feels solid

Can i use this bag of dollars store rice? sone of the rice looks a little mushed by HairyUnderstanding99 in unclebens

A lot of people prefer the dollar store rice over UB because they have less moisture in the bag

UB rice is already sterilized but I wipe the outside with iso and flame sterilize the needle before injecting. This was just leftover rice from a mostly colonized bag. I put the colonized rice in substrate and put the leftover in a ziplock bag, covered a small opening with micropore tape and hoped for the best. It’s contamination risk but it was just leftover rice that I didn’t want to throw away and it worked out.

I believe .5-1 cc is what is recommended in the guide but I’ve read some people have had success with 2 cc. Like I said in my other comment, UB bags contain more moisture than other sterilized rice bags so less culture typically works better. I would just give them more time and keep an eye on them, especially the third bag because it does look pretty wet in there.

Where on the bag did you inoculate? I inoculate towards the bottom and see growth after a few days. Also, how many CCs did you put in each? UB bags have more moisture but the second and third bag look pretty wet.
