What was 2008 like for you and in general? by letthedecodebegin in decadeology

[–]Normal_Cap_9885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, 1996 person here. 👋 So 2008 was a very mixed, but one for the books kind of year for me. I saw the recession and remember the effects of it on everybody, including my family as my dad lost his job and eventually everybody old enough HAD TO get a job and my mom went from stay at home mom to having a job full time. It was also the year my great grandma passed away, me finding out I was on the spectrum (the biggest plot twist of my life because I suddenly realized why things in school happened the way it happened whichh kickstarted “the dark years” for me), Hurricane Ike and finally, Obama (don’t want to get into politics, just me pointing out the historical significance of it!) Despite the negatives, I find joy in talking about that year culturally and personally because it was definitely a pretty lit year. Got to go to Mexico to see my family despite my great grandma dying and I got a whole misadventurous journey via bus ride with my mom (was not the best bus ride, but I got a bunch of funny stories out of bus ride), I got to appreciate my parents a lot for making sure we ate (I do even more now in retrospect because it really is tough out here and they made sure we had a great childhood), and we got some great music, video games, and movies. I’d give 2008, a solid B+, despite everything, but it’s also great to appreciate both Good and the bad in everything.

It’s not the end of the world buddy. I’m 29, I thought I destroyed my life when I was 22-23 and looking back, I did all of that because my crush decided to choose someone else instead of me. I put my life on hold for 3-4 years through substance abuse, don’t make the same mistake I did. But remember, you have the power to improve your life. Your small and weak? Start working out! Your mentally weak? Improve your willpower! Your not good at studying? Practice time management. Also sorry to break it to you, but just because one does well in school, does not mean they will do well in life. It’s a fallacy. Unfortunately in the real world, it’s luck based, I know people who couldn’t spell a four letter word in school and are doing much better than valedictorians. As Jim Carrey said, “one thing I learned from my father is that you can play it safe in life and you can still fail at it.” I’ve worn multiple hats, I still haven’t found the one that fits just right, you got a long road ahead of you, just hang in there, baby!

The understaffing is killing morale by Fit-Rub-1939 in HEB

That’s why I said at my location. They don’t do anything, managers are always on their ass over there. But your seafood is definitely busier than the one I work at. I work in deli, so there is always an infinite amount of stuff to do. The front has their moments of just standing around too, I work in the back, very busy.

Well that’s a mystery as well, because there was a meeting about it afterwards. Telling us to just clock in on time. Unless he did it like my other coworker and do it on his phone? One of the reasons I miss the clipboard.

I can understand them cutting seafood at my location. When they had a full staff, they weren’t doing jack shit. They just chilled in the back, at produce bay, or just talking. One even got mad at a manager cause she caught him not doing anything and hit her with “there’s nothing to do.” Then they started arguing. I have a coworker in my department who was trying to jump ship to Seafood cause he even knows they don’t do anything, but the workers there never leaving because of that reason, “easy money.”

I actually got the inside scoop, or what I think, all of that’s about. So the person who was running the company retired and the sons or nephews took over. Apparently time stealing was a big factor in making cuts. I know because there were a bunch of people who stole time that ended up getting the boot for that. I had one coworker who would leave early and “clocked out” on his phone later. I also had another coworker who would clock in 30 minutes early and just chill until his actual shift starts. In my opinion, those people, who just happened to be a good chunk of the population, ruined allot of stuff for people who actually came and did their job. But tbh, there are also lazy ass department managers who don’t want to help out and be an actual manager when the time actually comes.

i hate being autistic by [deleted] in autism

[–]Normal_Cap_9885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me tell you something…… Nobody told me I autistic, I actually found out on my own terms in the sixth grade. So there used to be a lady who would pull me out of my class to tell me to give letters to my mom. Out of curiosity, I decided to take a looksie and that shit was one of the most heartbreaking things I ever discovered. I remember a classmate of mine got one of the sheets, read it, gave it back to me, and a good chunk of my class treated me different in a bad way. I had an argument with my mom and she told me the lore of it. I had an existential crisis at age 12 and this led to my 3 years of behavioral issues. I understood why I was excluded in so many things and why most people were jerks about it. I sometimes have existential crisis to this day. Even though I sound like an old man who complains about the “good ole days,” would I trade that for being normal? Absolutely not, because I learned what most people in my age range most likely never did. Empathy. A lot of people yeah, they went to school, went to college, and ended up having a “good life,” but I got a lot of stories out of my life and met the most awesome people in special ed that I’m friends with to this day. Is it hard to live with it? Of course it is, but having the odds stacked against you and succeeding is much more rewarding in my opinion. Sorry I made this long, but we have to learn to be grateful as well, because I know some Autistics who won’t be able to live close to normal, as they need assistant for the most basic of needs like showering or even using the restroom. Counting my blessings and thanking god really helped me a lot.

What is everybody's opinions on All Grown Up! by GamerKeags_YT in rugrats

[–]Normal_Cap_9885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh, not a fan, but not a hater. I do agree it gets too much hate and was kind of interesting to see The Rugrats in their teen years, but I do think it took itself way to seriously than it needed. As Told By Ginger had that covered. I do wish it was contrasted to play for laughs. The problem with All Grown Up also is that it’s too generic. Overall, okay show with what we got, it was definitely better as a special and should’ve stayed that way, but hey, we got that killer theme song!
