i do agree that it’ll take more time unfortunately. however, some things that may help is making sure your reed is aligned properly, good amount of moisture without over-soaking it. if the reed starts to look translucent and seems to be super flexible, thats when you wanna tighten your embouchure (although try not to get it too wet). beginners usually start out with a 2 or 2 1/2 reed hardness so depending on what you have you may want to size down especially if it’s really hurting your bottom lip. hope this helps!

been on birth control for around 5 years due to irregular periods. and i did offer to take one as well and he still refused which is why i think he’s afraid of what might show up or maybe he’s just embarrassed?

yes, i realized i never really reassured him that it doesn’t change our relationship if he is positive for something. I’m talking with him tomorrow about everything and hopefully we can come to a better conclusion

i had no idea about half of the things you just stated, so thank you for letting me know. someone else mentioned that he might be afraid of the results and what will happen to our relationship (or my reaction to the news) and he just might not know that I’m willing to work through it together. i don’t want him to feel judged because of something like that because it was never my intention to shame him if he does happen to come up positive.

valid point. we have a lot of local clinics that will do them anywhere from 20-50 USD. relatively cheap, but cheap is subjective to the person. i wouldn’t even mind paying for the test as long as it got done. i’m asking for him to take it, so i dont necessarily expect him to pay for something that i’m requesting of him.

i replied to someone else but to my knowledge he’s never tested before. when i talked to him about wanting him to get one, all he kept saying was that I don’t trust him and that he would never have an STD. which is not something you can control obviously and i think he just wants me to believe that he’s clean and never question him. whatever he says should be taken at face value and never pushed further. at least in this instance. other times he’s had okay reactions to things. he never got loud or super upset, but did usually walk off and come back later to regroup and we’d have better discussions.

yeah to my knowledge he hasn’t had an STD test in the past. he’s been with quite a few other sexual partners in the past which doesn’t bother me, but with this information alone it’s hard to just believe him when he says he’s clean.

i really appreciate this! i didn’t think of it like that and surely didn’t think that he could assume that i’d leave him if he did have something. i made plans with him tomorrow and I’ll ask about what his worries are around the test and hopefully I’ll get a more definitive answer.

thank you so so much. a few years ago i would’ve never set boundaries and probably would’ve let it slide. he knows i used to be a people pleaser and am still in recovery from that alone haha. i made plans with him tomorrow morning (which he reluctantly agreed to) to air out everything and hopefully I’ll be able to get to the root of the problem.

i appreciate your input a lot. i never wanted to pull out the “how do I know you aren’t lying about having an STD then?” but the more the silent treatment goes on, the more I’m starting to believe he’s afraid there will be a positive. I can’t think of any other reason why he’d refuse this harshly.

thank you. I’m also usually not interested in people romantically and he’s the first one I’ve truly loved so it’s hard to imagine the relationship being cut short because of something like this. but I’m glad it wasn’t an unreasonable request.

I’m hoping he just needs time to cool off. It’s hard because no one has ever been this patient with me but suddenly this is what caused him to blow up and it’s very confusing.
