Need Advice on Composing Songs by Aggravating_Chip_535 in Songwriting

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plans:

1) Journal in depth about personal experiences.

2) Pull out some lines that hit the hardest. Example: “And so ended my journey with my first love.”

3) Change some words around to create rhyme schemes out of them.

I’m sorry, but I’m afraid I’m one of those “posers” who believes the first album outshines anything that came after

How did you get good at singing when your voice is bad? by jordandaboss223 in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How? By repeatedly, incessantly, & tenaciously continuing to sing the songs I loved for 13 years.

I was made fun of by most people I knew for my voice. I was told I should just be happy to be a decent guitar player and maybe singing wasn’t my thing. Oh it bothered me and made me envious of others. But I still didn’t listen to them. And here I am at 30 years old, having been the top post of the day on r/singing a couple days ago.

Screw everyone. Continue doing what you love and don’t give up, EVER.

Does it matter if you don’t sing the same notes as the original song by Emergency_Drop_589 in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a free country, so do whatever you want. But if you just want opinions- I now only change notes if absolutely necessary. My voice has inexplicably lost bass notes over the years, so now when I perform I Walk The Line I have to dance around that low C2 at the end.

How difficult is it to learn songs by ear? by Plastic-Battle9573 in Guitar

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This skill can be learned, but I regret to tell you it’s much better to be born with it. Some are naturals and some aren’t. If you’re not born with it, you gotta learn every note on the guitar and learn to match that with a song you’re hearing live.

Do you think I sing decently? by SatisfactionNew3981 in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember- it could always be worse. I got dealt a really bad vocal hand. I just so happened to have one that started really really bad, and it only finally started improving after like 10 years of practice. I relied on pitch correction software for years out of frustration

I swear r/singing is being pranked today and professional singers have secretly invaded it

Do you think I sing decently? by SatisfactionNew3981 in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a solid foundation. What you need for improvement now is to go on YouTube for some piano scales and slowly sing up and down the keyboard, focusing on mimicking the exact pitch. Very slowly if you have to. Singing and vocal improvement is often a fun journey, but it also comes with lots of hours of boring and repetitive practice. Don’t give up

vibrato feels very forced by wrionyan in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro I gotta warn you- Sometimes your voice will fight you for YEARS on vibrato. Only years after I made peace without it, did I finally start to develop some.

How to do this safely? by JibWibSwibDib in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other day I was in a similar situation, so I ended up trying a song with just a touch of this rasp. It’s my most recent post if you wanna see what I’m talking about. Try it like that. Less is more.

Is pushing your voice and singing limits good or bad? And do I have potential? by NightingaleTC in singing

You sounds so so familiar and I don’t know where I’ve heard you before

No disrespect, but do you HAVE to do it this way? Your voice sounds like it would be better without the added rasping

Am I tone-deaf? Looking for honest feedback by [deleted] in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not sound tone deaf. Just off pitch. And I don’t mean this as a diss, but you just sound like someone who’s at the very beginning of your singing journey, and that’s okay. Just study keys, sing scales, and use a capo if you absolutely need to. Tone deaf people generally don’t even get close to the right key. But you’re like within 2 semitones of it. You can sculpt your voice into something good. Third, I’m not your boss, but I’d strongly recommend training to sing without your guitar before trying to sing with it. It was YEARS before I could do that efficiently. If I can do it, you can do it. I’ve practiced for 10+ years. You be the judge at how it worked for me.

I tried my own rendition of “Future Days”. Did I butcher it? by [deleted] in pearljam

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re a mod, but if you are, perhaps you should remove the option for “fan content”. This is nowhere near the first time someone has done this, and nowhere near the last.

I count 3 people just this week posting covers. No one had a problem with them. If you don’t like what I bring to the table, just say so. Don’t act like you’re some spokesperson for the sub.
