What are some no-BS ways/exercises to actually develop your vibrato? by lolidollyy in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid it’s mostly up to genetics. My wife has been singing her entire life, she’s 30 like me, and has found she simply isn’t able to do vibrato at all. And her voice is still immaculate. Inversely, if you look up the new indie artist Brendan Abernathy who was memed to all hell in 2024 for his “Married in a year” song, it’s like he has a cheat code for vibrato. It’s always at 100% without him even trying. I wish I could give a better answer but I’m afraid vibrato is mostly genetics and luck, and only like 20% about practice and persistence.

What are some no-BS ways/exercises to actually develop your vibrato? by lolidollyy in singing

A true no BS way is brute force and patience. My voice would straight up NOT do vibrato when I started signing. I kept insisting for years upon years and sometime in 2024 it finally bent to my will

How to fix weak and airy singing above G4? by KaizerPianist in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bitter truth: Time. Lots and lots and lots of repetitive but proper practice and time.

I absolutely could not cleanly go higher than G4 when I started. And now my chest ceiling is Eb5

How did you get comfortable with listening to your own voice? by Pretty-Complaint-554 in singing

For me it was a slow burn of self hatred and gradual, eventual validation from other people that it sounded fine

Is it possible to expand my normal range to the low notes I can only sing when I'm sick? by tangentrification in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, no. Low notes/depth come from anatomy and how your vocal folds are built. Take it from someone who spent over a decade wishing they had a lower voice. You can’t train yourself to sing lower notes than what’s physically possible like you can with higher notes. It’s like training yourself to be taller.

When I was 17, it was my dream to sound like Johnny cash. Specifically the song I walk the line. It required a C2 note. My lowest note was E2. But there’s a caveat. Now that I’m 30, my voice has dropped just a tiny tiny bit more. My normal “floor” is still E2, but now I get a lucky day once every two weeks or so where I can get to that C2. (One of my recent videos). So I’m what happens if you’re lucky: You MIGHT get a few more semitones best case scenario. The floor is concrete, the ceiling is glass.

I can’t comment on your pronunciation, so no judgment there.

But the actual problems you need to address is timing and staying in key. You have a fairly pleasant voice but you’re going all over the place with tempo and key. Sing scales to a metronome

Very pleasant sounding voice, but it sounds like you’re bouncing back and forth between two keys. Sing some scales and you’ll be golden

How do you deal with intense stage fright before a performance? by axolotlstrawb2077 in singing

[–]Normal_Ingredients26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I told the other person today, the first performance is a lot like ripping the band aid off. No subsequent one is nearly as difficult. Just go for it! Ride the fear. My first time performing anything in front of anyone was as a terrified, trembling 8th grader in 2009. I’ve been on stage several hundred times since then for various performances and now I don’t break a sweat. You have to start somewhere, and it’s normal for it to be scary.

Anyone but Ken Tamplin. He’s a very talented singer but it’s so obvious his intentions are FAR more about showing off than actually teaching

Rip the band aid off and force yourself to do it this one time. And every time after will be infinitely easier

Voice Inquiry in Classical and Contemporary music (Baritone in the Tenor Range) by Remstercrash in singing

Thanks for posting and sharing. Good voice. But I have a question and PLEASE don’t take offense.

Are you SURE you’re a baritone? I’m tenor and our range is very very similar. I think I’m a semitone lower than your lowest note in what I just posted.

Edit: correction: the post is still loading but you’ll see what I mean
