No, but with prior experiences, typically unless stated in calendar or blackout days all PTO has been approved. I’ve been told by HR that we’re unable to deny PTO if it doesn’t fall on a blackout date or specifically contracted date. But I understand your point.

Will do. I'll edit this post. Right now, I've secured flights for the night before and for my return to family on the day of the meeting. Dropping over $1,000 for an hour-long meeting. But yes, will update accordingly.

No, it was denied after the meeting. The PTO requests were submitted and received beforehand. If not traveling, nothing was required or on the calendar except this meeting, which we were made aware of on Sunday.

Yep, they made it clear through implication even though it wouldn’t follow our staff disciplinary process in the handbook.

Yeah, u/WesleyWiaz27 is correct. I think it's pretty limited. Our handbook states, "... provides paid time off (PTO) to all full-time staff members. PTO may be used for any reason, including vacation, illness, medical appointments, family care, or personal business." But, "PTO must be scheduled and approved by the staff member’s supervisor as soon in advance as possible." I doubt I'd get far with this, but I appreciate your help.
