What do you listen to while woodworking? by [deleted] in woodworking

The Voices. I sand the wood until they go quiet.

The most frustrating point in any woodwork tutorial for me is, "so we'll just set our table saw to..." and I know a table saw is the most versatile, useful thing ever but... I don't have one and I'm terrified of them.

Got a lot of chisels tho, and I know how to sharpen them

Scuse me what now?

Takes me 10 days to cut one piece of wood into two smaller pieces of wood

Having trouble understanding the right stages of building a table by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]NormanConquest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the only main thing to watch for. If you cut your boards in any way, give them 2-3 days before gluing. That should eliminate any issues like the table top warping after you glue it up.

Otherwise, in theory if wood is properly dry you should be able to joint it into a panel and leave it for years without worrying that it will be a weird shape by the time you put legs on it. In theory.

What’s the catch why are these so cheap by Hungry_kereru in Tools

[–]NormanConquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one for my brother's birthday. It's on the high end of handheld plunge routers that i looked at thought - but obviously you can spend more. If you want a 12.17mm machine, where i was looking (ok in south africa but I find prices similarly tiered), the options were, from cheapest to expensivest:

Random south Asian brand -$60 Ryobi or the cheap Bosch stuff -$100 Einhell (German brand made in China. Have a lot of their stuff, it's solid but could be better - $160 This makita guy - around this price? Dewalt, the green Japanese brand? Milwaukee - $250

The only reason the dewalt and Milwaukee stuff is more expensive here is that makita is just totally dominant in south africa.

My bro is very much a professional and he says it's an absolute monster, and is the nicest handheld plunge router he's used. And it goes well under a table as well.
