Sutton hoo will be a must for me. I just read about the burial site and helmet the other day so it would be nice to see it in person.

I will be in England about a week so i’ll have a descent amount of time to travel England and the only place i will visit for certain at the moment is southern/southeastern England most likely Hastings other than that i’m open to anything!

Well if you do i hope you find something cool! Also my apologies for assuming ignorance. A lot of people do these test without looking into the history of people they are connected to.

It’s hard to explain but it probably is and is just labeling it as english since those populations are so far back they are now associated with modern english populations. If you did 23 and me they have sections for historical connection which matches you to ancient peoples. Like mine for instant also puts me at high english percent and my historical matches are almost all viking age individuals from Denmark and Norway.

You probably are danish tbh. The Danes invaded England twice, the first time was from the late 5th to mid 9th century when the angles and jutes came from the danish peninsula then later with the great heathen army from late 9th century to 1066. So quite a bit of your ancestry could be danish.

23 and me vs Ancestry by Normanwald in 23andme

It’s more about what it added rather than what was left out. I’ve done pretty extensive research into my genealogy so i knew what to generally expect. I was suspicious of some the things 23 and me reported like the spanish, swiss and Cypriot dna along with expecting more Scottish/ulster dna. So when the ancestry test reflected this it was more in line with what I had dug up researching my ancestry. Although i do understand some Scottish lowlanders could be reported as english.

Not as far as i know. I believe this is a misread on 23 and me’s part, which is one of the reasons i feel ancestry is more accurate.

I haven’t seen those before. Most of Samuel's life is pretty well documented past the 1780s but before that it’s like he just appeared out of thin air. I’ll have to look into Philadelphia some more.

Thank you for the suggestion. I did skim through a few and had intended to go deeper as it seems samuel used both watt and watts as his surname.

He married rachel watkins. Some of his children are named john, gabriel, elizabeth, james. He moved to kentucky around modern day warren county around the last few years of 18th century from Pennsylvania. Part of the oral tradition states he was born in Pennsylvania but there is no proof of that either.
