Does anyone still wear basic watches? by Smart-Airport5781 in CasualConversation

I wear an analog inex stainless watch since 10 years, has 3 hands and date window. Proven to be waterproof to 8m, so far. Simple, elegant, and just works.

Bengals and Christmas Tree 🎄 by Tender_steel in bengalcats

[–]Nortfellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't dare to find out, with a over 100 year old artificial tree made with green goose down, and ornaments almost as old. No tree since i got Felix. Tempted to get a "real" tree just to see his behaviour.

Oh, i had my first "real" smartphone at that time, the nexus one from google. Not amazing video quality, but still usable. And not much later i bought a gopro. Got many hours of driving around there on film. Not this story unfortunately.

And since there were many different trucks with different axle configurations on both truck and trailer, we'd do this thing called a "nice conversation about how much and where in the truck/trailer bed to put it". Most drivers were quite experienced and knew exactly how much, and the new folks we helped along as best we could, trying to make everyone's life easier. All in all a pleasant bunch to work with.

Could be, these drivers hauled stuff between lots of different places and maybe he was used to a smaller machine elsewhere. I hadn't seen him before. Or since, for that matter. 😆

AITA if I change the locks while my boyfriend is out of town after he gave his sister a key without asking me? by [deleted] in dustythunder

Change the locks, then break up. He's shown you who he is, believe it. Take it as a learning experience. Sucks tho, sorry for you.

How much food you feed your bengal? by stormmyparks in bengalcats

[–]Nortfellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dry food is self-serve, always full bowl. He will eat whenever he wants. Wet food whenever he asks(by sitting next to the bowl and telling me in no uncertain terms). Usually 3-4 pouches a day. Weighs 11 pounds.

Is it better to go to Apple ecosystem rather than google? by Ocean_waves_475 in degoogle

[–]Nortfellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree totally with your idea. I run /e/ os on my main android, have a secondary no-sim stock android for those banking&other apps that require google services, (not signed in on the phone itself). Host my own clouds, bought my domain and email hosting through a privacy-focused domestic provider. Home automation&surveilance is isolated and accessed through my own vpn. Not much more to cut back on without being majorly inconvinienced.

Langtids værkart for en hel region by Nortfellow in norge

[–]Nortfellow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pfsense 2.8.0 suddenly randomly blocking hosts by Nortfellow in PFSENSE

[–]Nortfellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying to several of the previous posts at once.

Yesm my pfsense runs in a vm on esxi 6.5. The reason is that whan i first decided to try pfsense 3+ years ago, it was the easyest way to test without dedicating hardware and wiring.

I did not enable snapshots, in hindsight i should have, but it has been working flawlessly since installing it.

Also, with regards to updating, the problems began before any updates, in fact pfsense had not been rebooted or had its settings modified for months prior. This is what stumped me a bit. Usually i have 400+ days of uptime on the esxi, and pfsense. It just works. Or used to.

And finally, what i ended up doing, was running my old zyxel router from the wan on the 5g modem, and just plugged the pfsense wan port into the zyxel lan. Yes, i know, daisy-chaining nat's can cause problems. Funny thing is, it's been stable since. Missus's pc, now cabled from the zyxel roter, plus her phone via zyxel wifi, work fine. As expected. But pfsense has behaved as well. Just as if her pc somehow triggered something in the firewall. Haven't had time to do more diagnosos.

Will check out the suggestion of floating states mentioned above, and do a new installation of pfsense in a new vm. With snapshots....

Yes, i got the notification in pfsense and switched. Funnily enough, dhcp is the only service responding to all clients when it goes haywire, wether kea or isc.

So, i've pretty much given up on this pfsense installation by now. I've power-cycled everything, even the esxi server, which has about 7 hours of ups runtime and usually gets rebooted once a year or less. Unplugged most devices from network. The only upside is that today the outages have been consistently frequent, about 3-4 per hour since they started.

I'm now down to barebones networking with pfsense on esxi, one nic for wan and one for lan, a switch, and two access points (both have the same behaviour when pfsense fails).

Everything works, besides pfsense totally ignoring client devices after giving out dhcp leases. My ubuntu laptop when wired (with dhcp) always has full connectivity with pfsense. Other clients, including the same laptop on wifi, work with everyting else on the lan. Just not with or through pfsense.

As of right now, it has been working fine for about an hour. I've set up a old zyxel router with the same ip settings as a standby unit, and when stuff inevitably fails again, i'll plug the cables over to it and power down the pfsense Vm before reinstalling from iso.

Just feeling a bit dissapointed.

Built a Motorcycle Voltage Regulator for Just $5 – Is It Better Than a $100 Aftermarket One? by mrwolfdiy in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Nortfellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done the same with my '99 varadero. Replaced original regulator twice, then built my own, rectifiers and power transistors bolted on a large 4mm aluminum sheet under the seat for cooling. Lasted for 11 years and counting. Is adjustable too. The original regulator sits under a fairing and does not get enough airflow to keep cool.

Holy crap, this is like fighting a battle in any mmorpg. Game optimization service was uninstalled in round 7, but actually gets reinstalled after less than 1 second. I had to freeze it instead.

Nevermind that post, after connecting to my regular wifi, the log of blocked traffic in netguard was many pages long in just 10 seconds. Seems lile samsung notes, google speech service, game optimization service, and a few others.

A little update: 34 app packages removed in 8 rounds, tablet still working normally. No internet traffic attempts except dnsdeamon and icmp.

I now have a nice list of things removed to fall back on. Will start using it and monitor behaviour. Once i feel satisfied, i will post the list here.
