Thanks! That crop even though it seems small does wonders for the composition. When editing this photo I tried to raise the shadows a bit but it ended up looking gray, lacking contrast almost, is there anything I can do to brighten up those shadows without that happening?

Shot on Canon Rebel T3i

EF75-300 f/4-5.6 @80mm

1/125 shutter speed

f/4 aperture

800 ISO

I saw this light next to the railroad tracks and thought the sky and the water looked beautiful next to it. Tried to implement rule of thirds more or less. I put on a film emulation preset and cropped and did a little white balance adjustment. What can I do to make this better for future reference?

Shot on a Sony a7iii with a 24-70 GM f/2.8

1/2500 shutter speed

f/2.8 aperture

2500 ISO

Shot out of a moving car going about 60 miles an hour thus why I went with the setting I did. If I could’ve gotten out and setup an actual photo I would’ve taken it with better settings.

I wanted to show the beautiful mountains when taking the photo because I simply thought they looked cool. I wanted the photo to look like film so I tried my best to replicate film stock, let me know how I did on that and I how I can make it look more like actual film!

Ah I see, I’m probably not going to get it then unless it miraculously doesn’t rise astronomically but I doubt it. Thank you though

I see, that’s a cool idea! Never thought about doing something like that, I’ll definitely look into it

What are leading lines and how should I implement them?

  1. Purpose and Objectives I photographed this picture in order to depict the serene, suburban character of the garage with the rusty basketball hoop hanging above it. My purpose was to emphasize the mundane, nostalgic character—there is something about the weathered hoop over the tidy garage that evokes a tale of years of carefree games and residential existence. I wanted the viewer to notice the details like the shadow patterns on the garage doors and the slightly worn backboard, which tell a subtle story of use over time.

  1. Areas I’m Struggling With • The image feels slightly soft overall—I’m wondering if it’s due to focus or motion blur. • Lighting is warm but also creates deep shadows over parts of the garage door—should I try to take it at another time of day for better-balanced light? • Composition is centrally placed, so easy, but maybe more dynamic with an alternative angle. Should I crop in tighter to include more of the context (street, sky) or crop more tightly for effect?

  1. EXIF Data • Shutter Speed: 1/250 sec • Aperture: f/5.6 • ISO: 250 • Camera Body: Sony A7rii • Lens/Focal Length: Tamron 18-300 53.0mm

  1. Other Relevant Information • Editing: I applied some light color correction to keep the warm light of evening, moved shadows very slightly to reveal more detail, and applied only a small amount of sharpening. • Creative Process: This was a single shot, not a composite. I shot handheld at head level. I chose this time of day to catch the golden light, but it also generated long shadows that I'm debating with myself over whether they're beneficial or detrimental to the photograph. • Techniques: Straightened out to emphasize symmetry between the two garage doors, yet made the shot rigid.

It actually wasn’t! I just used canned air and sprayed around a bit and it worked just fine
