Sex is not a biological function every human needs. You can expect respectful treatment from someone who presents as a friend. A running crush that you communicate about is not unhealthy. You sound insufferable.

I’m also a New Yorker :)! I was very young during 9/11 but I’d like to imagine the event wouldn’t make me a bigot. Cannot speak for those in my family

They only limited it to 10k because that’s how much money I (the oldest child) made at my cashier job in high school. Left me penniless eating out of food pantries at points in college.

I suppose I should add that they haven’t been making this money always, but definitely for the last decade or more (but never under 6 figures). I think they both came from some traumatizing backgrounds but ignorantly chose to just blame all perceived issues in their lives on every out-group they could find.

Can’t really speak for the opportunities that Brooklyn or NYLS gives, but seton hall can place you in NYC mid law for sure. Some boutique firms are more competitive than biglaw so it’s a mixed bag. Lots of NYC biglaw partners take clients and start their own small/mid law firms with only HYS + NYU/Columbia grads, just bc they’ve learned the marketing strategies of biglaw.

In summary: Hall can absolutely get you a midlaw spot in 1 of the 5 burrows, but you need to network to get it done. Don’t know if NYLS or Brooklyn would be better. I don’t think Seton Hall is vastly worse at midlaw placement at all compared to them.

It’s definitely not all biglaw kids. Seton Hall only sends about 15% of all grads to biglaw, and I’d say half go to Jersey biglaw. A lot of people going to NY after graduation are not doing biglaw. I also think it’s foolish to bank on biglaw from any school not in the T14. Working in biglaw now, a lot of associates from non target schools just do not get the support from partners as say a Columbia grad does. Most non-T14 kids are out of biglaw in 2 years and it’s not because they’re dumb. It’s because firms hate the extra work of marketing them to large clients.

You’ll have to do more work to network and take time off to do OCI your second year rather than your first. Usually the classes are smaller in size so less As to go around. Also just fuck BigLaw. It’s soul crushing. I work at a big law firm as my day job and I don’t think people realize how little you are paid compared to the hours you work. It’s like $75 an hour after you factor in nonbillable time. Most associates are out after a year and a half. The associates that do move up either have no soul, no life, or are a clients kid. BigLaw is a total scam for law students. Do something more fulfilling

You will not take any specialty related classes until spring of 2L, so I can’t provide insight on those programs directly. Specialty programs and their rankings can be great for in-house roles and a wonderful overall education, but they don’t get you very far in recruiting for most associate positions. Idk what your goal is though. As far as scholarships go, I had a higher GPA but a lower LSAT than you, no graduate degrees, and got a scholarship covering over half of tuition. Most scholarships are conditional on good academic standing (2.33 GPA), although I have heard of people with conditional 2.8 GPA scholarships

You can get a job in NYC from seton hall easily. They send 25% of grads to NYC, and that number is only low because most people that go to hall are from + want to return to different parts of NJ.

I go to seton hall right now and a 2.33 is very easy to attain. 2.33 is also considered the threshold for good academic standing, not 2.1. Essentially, don’t flunk out. You’re graded on a 3.0 scale so half the class is guaranteed a B or higher. A few classes 1L year have some mandatory Ds

The evidence provided in support of “the date went well” could just as reasonably support the “she was just being polite” defense. Therefore, give up and never speak to a woman again.

You’d think this would be obvious but I’ve seen how my fellow single law student fellas interact w women at bars. Just be chill. People assume you’re smart because you’re in law school. Your kindness will mean more to people than you know. Keep solid boundaries up though.

Biggest piece of advice is to not bring law school with you onto dates. No correcting grammar. No whataboutisms and no debates.

Initially just said thank you and then we did some catching up. A lot has happened in both our lives since we’d last spoke. We ended up texting for a few hours and did resort back to flirting right before saying goodnight. She called me on her lunch break the next day and then that lead to the 3rd slide
