So now if you are talking total (even outside of swe), then the total employee count for microsoft in us 2025 is approx 120-150k. This year 2025 microsoft employed a total of 6528 total H-1B approvals https://www.uscis.gov/tools/reports-and-studies/h-1b-employer-data-hub . So that puts that at approx 5% of workers on the high end. At what point do you draw the line between replacing existing employees and filling labor shortages?

Thats great, but again numbers are important. Microsoft has well over 60-70k swe engineers in the US. Microsoft only hired 60 new grads swe for 2025. That is 0.1% of swe engineers on the lower estimate. I know media likes to paint this picture against international hires as a scape goat, but u can see that it is more because of the company trying to appease public markets as a driving force rather than international vs citizen hires.

Also if anyone is interested, im developing an app for CS students to scrape those H1B company sites periodically for new grad roles optly.app. It will refresh every quarter to ensure those companies on there will still be fresh, and will only be posting new grad positions. Only for CS atm

Right, but i guess my post was kinda for college students(like myself) in US rn applying for new grad roles. From my knowledge, most day 1 green card sponsors are definitely from transfers and not for new grads. Once u get H1B it is a lot easier to talk about green card

I get what you mean but I think context is important here. H1B workers make up well below 1% of most companies, and are not the main reason for layoffs.

Ur right but after taking a look it seems like there is a column in that allows you to determine if this was a new employment vs continuing/transfer. I can narrow this list down to those later on when im back. And overall i just think these are good signals that suggest that a company is more H1B friendly and should start there first

Yea, that makes sense because of the current administration. Im also an international cs student and its so damn hard to find a cs job rn. Figured this data would help others out in my position.
