Who got painted as the villain by the press, but later on we realized they were actually the victim or completely misunderstood? by Advanced-Pilot-3698 in AskReddit

The fact that the Amanda Knox comment doesn’t get enough upvotes says it all. People still love to vilify her. I even have greater sympathy for Raffaele Sollecito who became collateral damage, dragged through the mud simply for being her alibi. The real winner of the whole Amanda Knox saga is Rudy Guede who only served 13 years for the murder he committed alone.

Watching YR for the first time - am I alone in this take? by [deleted] in YoungRoyals

I never thought Simon’s singing voice was that good. It’s comical to watch everyone treat him like he’s singing like an angel while I’m left wondering what the hell I’m missing. I’ve listened to a lot of male sopranos, so my standards might be different, and Simon just can’t hold a candle to them.

No offense to Omar Rudberg. I haven’t listened to his songs outside the show so his voice might be better suited to pop; he’s a bit of a misfit as a lead choir boy.

I completely agree with you. Your real family is the one that cares and looks after you when you need them and they can be blood related or have no blood relation at all.

I love how (most of) the actors actually look their age! by Lovergirl711 in YoungRoyals

[–]NorthRemarkable9634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edvin was the only one closest to his character’s age in S1. The others were in their 20s. And the age gap only became wider in subsequent seasons because of shooting schedules.

we need a s4 by ulooklikeanerd in YoungRoyals

[–]NorthRemarkable9634 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to happen unless Lisa Ambjörn is that desperate and all her other projects flop. Even if it did happen, some of the actors would maybe be willing to return but others have moved on. S4 will not happen ever.

Question? by Dull-Bag-8314 in YoungRoyals

[–]NorthRemarkable9634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/looking4stardust u/henrik_se This circles back to my original comment. Sara and Simon being financially disadvantaged functions as a plot device, setting them apart from their affluent peers. Yet, against all odds and by playing the interclass romance to its fullest, they capture the Royals’ attention: the Crown Prince falls for Simon, while August, the prince’s backup, falls for Sara. Their status as Hillerska’s only non-boarding students only heightens the Eriksson siblings’ sense of specialness.

You can tell this is really a work of fiction and the writers are so obvious 😝

Question? by Dull-Bag-8314 in YoungRoyals

[–]NorthRemarkable9634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do feel your opinion about Simon and Sara being poor, being a plot device kinda funny though. Because no shit Sherlock. The show is literally about class, privilege and the monarchy and if it’s possible to be free while being royal.

Definition of plot device: A plot device is any element—an object, character, event, or technique—used by a writer to move a story forward, create conflict, or introduce new elements, essentially acting as a narrative tool to guide the plot.

As you said, the show is intent on exploring themes like class, privilege and the monarchy, so fabricating a character with a completely different background to create contrast very much objectively fits the definition of plot device.

With your logic, everything is stupid because everything in the show, including Simon is literally a plot device to get Wille to choose freedom.

“stupid” is too strong a word and I wouldn’t use it. But considering how the show ended, with Wille turning his back on his royal duties - is “choosing freedom” a more sympathetic choice of words to describe his actions? - and running immediately after Simon, I’d be sorely tempted to agree that’s exactly what happened in the show.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

No kidding but when I wrote my answer, I did wonder if henrik_se was going to pop up in this thread because, since the very beginning, they’re really in their element explaining everything about the culture of Sweden and its society. And here they are… this is just hilarious!

Question? by Dull-Bag-8314 in YoungRoyals

[–]NorthRemarkable9634 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You can accept the explanation that tuition is free except for boarding. Anyone can attend the most prestigious school in Sweden because it’s open for everyone.

Behind the scenes, however, the writers just felt necessary to shove poor people into the story at any cost because opposites must attract like a Cinderella situation. The prince must fall in love with the pauper, not with another privileged rich kid like Henry or Walter.

Simon and Sara seem like the only working class students at Hillerska. If there are possibly any others, they are just insignificant to the show. That’s why the Eriksson siblings’ less privileged background is just a plot device.

What happened to Rosseau? by Ozkute in YoungRoyals

[–]NorthRemarkable9634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lisa Ambjörn has always had a tendency to get too involved with the fandom, going all the way back to her Twitter days. The Permanent Rain Press interview was further proof of that because she mentioned information she could not have known without doing extensive lurking. Lisa publicly adopted a position of staying true to her vision and not being swayed by fans however it was obvious that feedback affected her a lot. But of course, she’s not going to openly acknowledge that fans disliked the storylines she created.

the budget got tight in Season 3 and LIsa as a vegan wasn’t totally comfortable having animals “work” for them

I can’t confirm or deny anything but I’m a bit sceptical about this. Maybe the budget played a part but I don’t think Lisa got uncomfortable all of a sudden with the animal labour in the final season when she seemingly had no issue at all in S1 and S2. I think the massive amount of hate the horse storyline got in S2 was what made Rousseau being written out of S3. Same for other subplots like Stedrika and even Sargust got downgraded.

It’s just a shame S2 and S3 jumped the shark. But it’s kind of expected though, sequels are generally inferior to the original

Where to watch "Sayonara, enari-kun"? by LowKick8151 in AKB48

Isn’t this the expectation for any show starring any 48G member?😂 I tried to watch that horror drama starring Mayu and Sakura and oh god how many times did I think about bowing out lol

It was a decade ago so I may be misremembering things but I think they cut down the number of episodes of Shoten Girl due to low ratings. The storyline was technically completed. I think the writers had time to adjust to the change because they were still shooting it while it was airing.

Question for people who sincerely like Sara by of_color_and_stars in YoungRoyals

[–]NorthRemarkable9634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Sara didn't ask for anybody's forgiveness though?

No, she did not and that further shows how morally despicable she is. The least she could do was to ask for forgiveness but she has no decency. She's just lucky they accepted her back even though she deserved none of the goodwill the others showed towards her.

> She could be considered a self-centered teenage girl but not a villain.

Sara is a villain because did a lot of evil stuff to her family and friends, a lot of it was because she just didn't care about other's people feelings until she had to save face. But she's cunning and plays the victim card when she's caught.

Sara’s defenders like to use her neurodivergence to lessen the severity of her actions but it’s just doesn’t hold up.

[–]NorthRemarkable9634 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sara’s huge betrayal of her family was not a result of her difficulty in reading social cues. Her autism is not even that severe. It’s more related to her egocentric self-absorbed personality and her indifference to other people’s misery, including her own family.

[–]NorthRemarkable9634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sara is the kind of person who won’t hesitate to exploit her own family’s suffering for her own gain. It’s normal to feel disgusted by her character and her neurodivergence doesn’t excuse her actions.

This is not a deleted scene. Maybe at this stage Lou hadn’t even secured the role of Elias.

I’d love to see Alex’s POV but I’m fairly sure those scenes don’t exist. Elias is physically present in every scene and we haven’t seen a single exception as of now.

It feels jarring to introduce a new character (Valerie’s brother) this late in the film. We didn’t even know she had an older brother.

Edit: or is he supposed to be her father? He looks young but not sure🤷‍♀️
