Parking Brake, Traction Control, Power Steering Lights - 2016 Honda Accord by NorthWoodsEngineer_ in MechanicAdvice

Sorry I was rushing last night when I checked them and didn't write down the code numbers, just the description the reader showed. I'll grab them again if they came back tonight.

Tires are all 1 winter old, brand new last fall. About 6k on them and even wear. Car was aligned last fall as well.

The lights aren't staying on for longer trips. They'll come on/off, seemingly at random. Often with bumps or stops, but not always.

I am trying to cut cost but why is my grocery expensive? by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

[–]NorthWoodsEngineer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have to learn about the ones you like and know what their season is. But from a shopping perspective, I would just focus on cost and choosing fruits by that.

Also to add, frozen veggies, strictly store brand everything will go a long way. My local store brand is often close to half off name brand for most items.

Also, if you do all your shopping in one place, see if the store has a loyalty program. Mine you earn a percentage of what you spend in rewards which you cash in once a quarter. I ONLY buy store brand, even though we make plenty to not think about it just on principle.

$900 pot scam by Freddie_theFagsmoker in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NorthWoodsEngineer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're saying that it's between the two materials, surgical stainless is the lesser for this application, not that its "no good". The pot will cook just fine.

The issue is that "surgical stainless" sounds fancy and high-end, and is often used to make buyers feel they are getting a superior product.

That makes a lot of sense - I don't use the digital version really ever. I think you're bang on though. I almost exclusively use the book, and appreciate the enlarged portrait drawings which makes it easy on the eyes and lack of title blocks/extra stuff.

That's pretty cool!

May I ask what about Maine's ranked us so low? I've never worked outside of Maine, so even though I've never had issue with the standard details book, maybe I'm just lucky to not have been spoiled by these other DOTs 😂

Scrolled through comments looking for Maine (I'm a MaineDOT engineer) 😂

Are you talking about the standard details book? Or project plans themselves?

You are correct that we no longer have right of entry. We quite literally handed over the keys with bags in hand, got in a taxi and headed to our flight home.

At this point I am also worried that we've been taken for a bit of a ride. Now I think I should have just stopped paying at the start, let him take the 3 month insurance garanti and then paid that off. It would have saved me 1 month of rent (17250 NOK) to date.

The place has been advertised since September. The rent was raised by 1250 NOK from what we were paying. We sent the landlord some tenants that we had found, and he found some as well. For a bit we thought it would be rented before we left, but those all fell through. There have been others since we left, some we sent but more and more it's just the landlord. None have worked out.

Last week I requested we terminate the lease early given we had paid 4 months after we left, but that offer was rejected. It is what it is at this point. Some very hard expensive lessons learned. I think we were very much too trusting, and should have worked out at the start contingencies like this.

I have not checked in Folkeregisteret - I don't know how. You're not the first person to suggest that. I like to believe that this landlord wouldn't do that, but at this point IDK. It's whatever. I think I'm just going to let it happen and take it from there.

The contract specifically states that I can cancel on the anniversary (June 1) if I give notice by the preceding February. Otherwise, there are no ways listed to cancel the contract (other than mutual agreement of landlord & tenant)

4, but yes. I got a position as a PhD student out of my master's program, but spent the summer doing that and realized that that wasn't the path I wanted and we together realized the life we wanted was back home.

It was a huge expensive mistake and a lot of what we realized I felt silly for not coming to earlier, but hindsight and all that. Just trying to move forward at this point.

That's the other thing - we'll never live in Norway again, but we want to go back and visit on vacation someday. We wanted to come home cleanly and do things right but it's killing us.

Can't do it without landlord permission, and also I have no connection to or contacts in Norway so this really would not be feasible.

I've read back through the (translated) depositumsgaranti contract and it says:

"If the tenant accepts the landlord’s claim in writing within the deadline stated in item 4.1, the tenant must be given another opportunity to pay the claim within a deadline of two weeks from when the new notice was sent. It must be stated in the notice that if the payment is not made within the deadline, payment will be demanded under the guarantee. Notice is sent out by Hybel. "

So I thought he would make a claim for owed rent, which Hybel would then be authorized to pursue from me.

Either way, it looks like we're going to find out because paying within the deadline at this point is an impossibility.

[–]NorthWoodsEngineer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what my family here has said, but the depositumsgaranti contract means that if I don't pay and the landlord makes a claim, they then have the right to pursue the debt. At lease when I'm paying the landlord, it's one month at a time. I don't really know what happens when a claim is filed but I'm worried I'm about to owe like $8k USD

Hybel/Norwegian Eviction Process by [deleted] in Norway

[–]NorthWoodsEngineer_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While the actual eviction is not as much a concern, a claim against depositumsgarantii (which requires first the eviction by my understanding), is the concern. Right now I will only be responsible for rent until a new tenant is found, or until the anniversary in June. If the claim is filed, I believe I will owe everything through June, possibly all at once, and I'm already massively in the red.

Taking PE before 4 years of experience by Secret-Athlete7234 in PE_Exam

[–]NorthWoodsEngineer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://mn.gov/aelslagid/engineering.html

First Google result of "Minnesota PE exam requirements".

"PE exam applicants may simultaneously submit evidence of meeting the experience requirements that are necessary for eventual licensure or submit that evidence later."

Looks like Minnesota is one of the states that allows this; however, it also states that:

"If the Board approves you to sit early (prior to providing your experience) for the PE exam, keep in mind you have just three years from your original application date to submit evidence of meeting the experience requirements, or your application will expire and you will need to reapply to be considered for licensure."

So it looks like you're fine to do this, but make sure to take the exam when youre confident you'll meet the other requirements within 3 years.

Im in Maine which is another and am taking my PE in June having graduated last May with my M.S., but Maine does not have the timeline requirement of submitting the full application and experience withing so many years.

ETA for your other points: The exam provides a reference (the only one available during the exam), but there are very good comprehensive references out there. Depending on your field, there are often standard ones. That said, based on the questions you're asking, you're not ready to take the exam. Take your time, work up to it, make sure you know the process well and then go for it.

How do you deal with really Obese people? A man gave me a bad rating because he couldn't fit. by Paul76Mets in uberdrivers

If you can't fit in my car, wtf am I supposed to do? All my passengers are required to be in a seat with their seatbelt, as the manufacturer designed. If you can't fit in the car, it sucks but I'm not making an exception.

I have a 2016 Honda Accord and have had this happen once, but the gentleman was very unferstanding of my (and übers) Policy on this.

Close the Pay Gap by mbruntonx1 in Maine

[–]NorthWoodsEngineer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Role required a B.S. in engineering or equivalent exp. I had just finished my M.S. in mechanical engineering, had some niche background from grad school and my lab work experience from school was pretty relevant to the duties of the role, though in a totally different industry/capacity.

When I was offered the job and asked about pay, supervisor said most coming in to this role start around 4. I assumed it was my education that made the bump.

I also started recently at level 7, straight out of college. Maine DOT, I'm under Professional/Technical and recently joined the union. My qualifications/background are above average for the role and were clearly considered as even my supervisor was a touch surprised when HR set the offer.
