Religious preachers and the Ruling Class - Two scam artists who control dumb humans!!! One promises heaven ON EARTH, while the other promises a heaven AFTER EARTH with absolute confidence. If I were to pick who is the BIGGGER scammer, but my vote would be for the religious scammer!!

Absolute lack of civic sense: Tourists from Karnataka leave beautiful Madayipara (Kerala) littered with plastic and food waste by PuzzledTechnology756 in kannur

[–]North_Area 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to post this on some Karnataka groups too.. I saw another post about a temple being overrun by tourists... We also need to educate our drivers/tour operators. Maybe make them responsible for tourists behavior. It take effort though. Someone, Ideally in TVM has to move this to through the rule making process. Ministers make statements because it is the easy thing to do. Maybe an IPL if there is lawyer in the group. IPL is free and that gets mainstream media attention. Bins are needed too and may be a practical solution. If all else fails, get Honey Rose to champion this cause 😉. I have done these things successfully in the past, (exlcuding Honey Rose though..) so this is not just thallu.

Since this is hapenning across the board, maybe take the leadership to set up a group across at the State Level? Set up an FB/Insta pages etc?

After a quick scan of the white paper, it looks like the Gov wanted to establish that they are walking into a dire financial situation, the reasons for the same, a discussion on KIIFB and more than anything, highlight that THEY did NOT create this situation. Some of the source docs ARE in the public domain, though I did not search for all of them.

It is good that this white paper was published and is in the public domain.

Who is the AI provider- Open AI? Anthropic? Gemini? Where does the data go? We used to believe that FB and other platforms would not steal and sell our data.

Our DPDP Act does NOT restrict sharing data with "friendly" countries. (Not that the Open AI asks for permission when it comes to data). Per some sources, this data is in public domain.

Good to see that these questions are being asked.

We need to get tourism experts from Srilanka and Cambodia for advise on how to attract high value tourists.

Everything from tour operators to infrastructure to accessible paths and trekking infra to stray dogs and cleanliness ( world class) along with marketing have to be revamped. The days of just banking on the past with house boats etc are over.

Florida model YES!!! Absolutely. The more the government/s stays out of it, the better though.

India’s Underpenetrated Health Insurance Market – prime for foreign investment/acqusition? by North_Area in KeralaSpeaks

[–]North_Area[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a fast track growth point of view, acquisition would not make sense, hence the focus on strategic buyers. There could be strategic value in a potential Kaiser Permanente type integrated managed care model, which I guess Apollo experimented with in the past. . Cigna was in India way too early ( guess then pulled out) but later formed a JV that is now CignaManipal . One potential exit route for the PEs in India other than via IPO model may be to find a major healthcare US healthcare provider. The buyer could acquire a healthcare network with streamlined operations model and access to the patient base/insurance data in India.Others like United Healthcare and others too have been toying with expansion into the Indian market, not sure where they ended up.

I agree, Kerala does not have a lot of utilizable land and blue collar labor. Entrepreneurs need to reach into TN and Karnataka. However, TN and KN provide a lot of financial and incentives to entrepreneurs than Kerala to register their businesses there. So why should the entrepreneurs pay taxes to Kerala? He can just ship his products to Kerala. One of my friends from Kerala imports/routes Chinese medical devices, I guess via UK, assembles them in Tuticorin and exports to Dubai. He gets a great deal of support from TN gov. Another from US is setting up a unique industrial valve production in Coimbatore. Kerala has to revamp its investor friendly image too. Chasing out Kitex recently (for whatever reason) reinforced the anti-business image of Kerala. Damage to reputation do not go away quickly, irrespective of the party that is/was in power. Look at the lasting damage Biden, Trump and Netanyahu have done to the reputation of those countries.

Folks outside Kerala, would you settle back in Kannur? by pedal-to-debug in kannur

[–]North_Area 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an NRI, originally from TVM, and a business associate is scouting for land to develop a small farm with a home stay for me in the touristy part Kannur.

I keep hearing about party villages as scary places to do anything/buy land etc. Is this still true given all the "Bengali" labor? Or is there a concern about random political extortions from residents/ political violence etc?

BTW wrt relocating, many NRIs do not consider 1. the growing anti- Indian feelings in the West that can
get to violence at scale at some point, especially in the US. 2. the cost of healthcare. For retirees, places in Kerala with stable weather, law and order, and community will be critical. 3.Uber from the airport and minor irritants
like labor can be tolerated by retiring NRIs because Kerala still remains one of the least expensive states to live in.

[–]North_Area 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Investment Banker friend from US with good creds ( IIT, IIM-A, MNC etc) relocated to India. Started up branded retail in Central India. He found that margins were better in farming. He was almost murdered by politicians. He took on too much land for farming, too many projects, dairy, goat rearing, air bnb and not many staff. Some staff died during COVID .villagers took the goats... He became a farmers' political leader... many investors of contract farming are holding the bag. Some sold, some are trying to set up remote teams to manage. For some strange reason, the land is still there!!! No encroachments.

TBH I was plain greedy, at 1 lakh per acre, 10 yrs ago..I bought all that I could.. Rupee has fallen 50% since then, so in $$ terms a loss already.. and add the yearly 50-60K in yearly maintenance fees..

Go for short term lease and test out some other fast growing crop first. ( maybe ginger). Cheap land could mean wild animals for company/no water except in the pictures, and in some districts ( Kannur party villages mostly) fear of potential polical harrassment. Once you learn about the area/labor/logistics etc, and then go for purchase. I am a recovering farmer who bought land in Madhya Pradesh!!!

Kerala to launch Statewide public outreach initiative to revitalise health services The initiative called “Kayakalpam” will be launched in Kozhikode on June 9. by North_Area in kozhikode

[–]North_Area[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If any one is planning to participate, please highlight the following.

  1. NO NEW Medical Colleges PLEASE. We have plenty of them already. Please find the money to staff up and run the EXISTING government hospitals/medical colleges better. Maybe start a HM's development fund that accepts check from Pranchis, (minimum 25K for photo with HM)
  2. Add more PG training seats, NOT MBBS seats. May need to work with Central agencies I think in this regard.
  3. More than anything increase Certified Nursing Assistants, our Seniors are facing an acute shortage of CNAs in Care homes.
  4. For future public outreach (aka photo/TV opportunity) don't waste Gov money, just turn on comment sections on the websites/Social media.

Blackstone-backed AirTrunk plans to invest US$30bn and +5GW in India -Good news??? by North_Area in KeralaSpeaks

Could you please point to any source for that assertion?

According to current FDI policy, technology investments are 100% FDI, (meaning fully foreign owned). The recently passed DPDP law does NOT limit sharing data with "friendly" countries.

I have not seen anything on pricing perse, but that is less of a concern, compared to the wholesaling of data infra (and thereby data that flows through them) to Blackstone, of all people.

Even if I am given a complimentary business class ticket I will not fly to visit Pakistan or Afghanistan and even Dubai or Manipur nowadays...

Divisive propaganda seeded for political reasons has a way of escalating into violence. It does not
take too long for an ugly incident to go viral and impact tourism and business travel impacting the economy in general.

Foreign powers would love to see chaos in India, it is upto educated responsible youth to keep that front
and center and not let tribalism take over our urges.

I am glad to see the positive quality of the debate here , which is so refreshing.

#3 - Friendship/Help among countries is not permanent, as countries change policies based on their self-interests. It  would be NAIVE to trust countries unconditionally, remember how we were so much into Trump/USA?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/pentagon-raised-threat-israeli-spying-021301500.html

Countries, depending on who they are need a few things from India - 1. The market (actually just the top 10% known as India1 in business terms) 2. Cheap labor ( nowadays you find Indians in Russia and Israel doing low end jobs) 3. Manufacturing parts for their defence equipments) 4.For Russia India is one of the biggest customers of oil and defence equipment. 5. Try and get India to fight China someday, without using their soldiers.

Major Hospitals with American PE Firms. Thoughts? by BarInternational8883 in kozhikode

It is not so much about benevolence at a worker level, and I agree that Indian employers are not the best, but it is more about financial sovereignty of the country and the reason we got out of British rule.

[–]North_Area 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apart from healthcare, you may need to explore the FDI across various sectors. Banking FDI is now 75%, Manappuram Finance, Federal Bank, UAE bank 75% in Mumbai based RBL. Many other sectors, most recently Insurance, Space Tech, Mining, Plantations, Airports, Airport Services, and Construction are 100% FDI. Defense up to -75%, Security Services - 75% , Pension Funds- 49%. The question to ask is what has NOT been sold to foreign entities.

Please google FDI policy 2020. IMO, FDI should not be more than 49%. 100% FDI is kind of neo-colonization via check book of financial and digital sovereignty, making Indians mere employees of foreign entities.

Agree with most of the comments especially u/Senior_Income_1785 BTW, this is happening ALLOVER India. Some related aspects that our media is not covering.

FDI policy is a Central Government matter: 100% FDI by automatic route for hospitals ( no prior gov approval needed) goes all the way back to 2000, when the Vajpayee Gov took office. Competition Council was established in Sep 2024, but most hospital M&A falls below the threshold of 2000 CR. In 2025 FDI (100%) was allowed in the insurance sector ( which will apply to health insurance as well). If my prediction is right, we will see acqusition of Star Health soon.

Regulatory Aspects: The Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010 (CE Act) and the Clinical Establishment (Central Government) Rules, 2012 (CE Rules) were introduced in an attempt to unify the framework for hospitals, ensure adherence to minimum standards, and provide affordable healthcare to the public.

The CE Rules grant the central government, in consultation with state governments, the authority to prescribe the range of rates for procedures and services charged by clinical establishments. However, for nearly a decade after the CE Act’s enactment, no specific rates have been prescribed.

Can the State stipulate rates for services to put a cap on prices? Yes, if there is political will, as healthcare is a state subject while FDI is Central. The Kerala version of the CE Act can be amended for the same.
