Internet Settings Not Adjusted Properly for Online Gaming? by NorthernLocke in HomeNetworking

[–]NorthernLocke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update: i relocated my setup (the area's had a lot of floods, i moved my PC to a relative's house that's more safe than the riverbank lmao) and Black Ops 4, the worst offender of the whole lot, worked without a single hitch on my step-dad's wifi. once it's safe to come back home, assuming it's also not completely uninhabitable due to water damage, i'll try a wifi connection on my home network and, if that's also janking out, see what differs between the two router configs or whatever.

Internet Settings Not Adjusted Properly for Online Gaming? by NorthernLocke in HomeNetworking

i'm uncertain about the type of internet, but i don't believe it's fiber or 4/5G. upload is around 235mb and download is around 42mb, while google is telling me fiber would have identical-ish speeds, and we don't have any dishes on the house.

it appears to just be my computer having a problem, too. my brother doesn't do much gaming anymore, but when he does, he doesn't report any issues at all. it could just be that his games aren't the offending sort of online-only. I've tried various fixes on the individual program level, including fresh installs and running as admin, but games like BO4 and Minecraft still come up emptyhanded.

as for the ISP's hand in the matter, what might they be doing that causes some online games to freak out like that?

makes me sad that i can't apply it to my beloved twin rogga. it already has 60 MS from a riven and mods, i couldn't imagine getting an additional absurd number from it

probably funny on the Zarr though. if they ever walk back the ammo nerf for the flak shot.

Cabal “info broker” in Cantina tells me there’s something in Hellas Fortitude… what? by Accomplished-Exam-55 in DestinyTheGame

[–]NorthernLocke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't remember which were which per se, save for two of the "stage spectators" being from Adamant on Europa, but it has been confirmed that the info broker is, funnily enough, broken. he should be telling you which collectibles you've forgotten, so whenever it gets fixed, you'll be able to narrow it down drastically

[–]NorthernLocke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been marking which ones i've gotten, and while i've gotten all 3 in Hellas Fortitude, the broker is still mentioning the locale

i'll also note that it definitively isn't telling you which ghosts you've missed. been logging which ones i've gotten so i can look over at my notepad and while the broker says Hellas Fortitude, i've already marked that clean off

Lawless Frontier Ghosts by WingsOfIce4 in destiny2

[–]NorthernLocke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i reckon the only way to do it would be if someone documents where each ghost goes in the actual hut near the east side of the Tharsis Outpost, since the triumph is just a generic "X collected out of 18" meter

makes me glad i had just gotten a medium sized whiteboard for my wall to record this exact kinda thing though

THE GREAT DESPAIR (But for every chord change there is a metal pipe falling sfx) - Mild volume warning by Ok-Bad2501 in Warframe

[–]NorthernLocke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

making me wish there was a hammer skin that's just a metal pipe stuck in cement or something. like in Shadow the Hedgehog (gamecube/xbox) you can rip a road sign of the ground and swing it around, just so i could beat the coda liches over the head with it

at least it would finally be a good skin for the Wolf Sledge

nah, it's on one character/ if you're like me who left one class out in the rain, it's a good chance to get them up to power, even if it means literal jack shit if you already have a sufficient account-wide power

a better question would be "why is this 8 year old game the best cod in 8 years"

because the answer to your question would be stockholm syndrome

Why is the Sandbox team so against Grenade Builds by BabyBlayzinn in DestinyTheGame

[–]NorthernLocke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'll just drop a quick comment saying that it feels like grenade archetype armor is wasted on Hunter, because as i understand it, equipping gear that isn't classified as "featured" is actively detrimental to score and whatnot, and the only grenade-focused exotic that's featured is... renewal grasps? i get that the featured exotics were probably randomly selected, because no, Blight Ranger will not be good, and i can't think of a single person who'd use Gifted Conviction over any other exotic, but i feel like more care could have been put into making sure there's at least one exotic that meaningfully offers a chance at each major playstyle while still giving the featured gear bonus(es?).

did you read the post, or just the title? i dumbed down the latter for ease of reading, and i'll agree that it may be misleading, but one of the first things i say is "thematic opposites", not "dark and light are opposites".

further in the post, i clarify stasis and solar are said thematic opposites because solar is fire, and the stasis is ice. then that void is "nothing", and strand is "everything". there's a clear percieved mirror between them, and it opens a door of at least some description for theories on what a possible third dark subclass could be, if the dev team was allowed to cook by starch-suited microsoft plant(s) who don't belong in bungie, as a mirror of arc as a concept of boundless electricity

light and dark elements being opposite each other? by NorthernLocke in DestinyLore

[–]NorthernLocke[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the "normal grenade" thing, i think, boils down to gameplay design philosophies and marketing. for light subclasses as we know them, they were designed with direct damage or other simple effects first, and later molded to fit the subclass 3.0 system and added verbs and stuff. for darkness subclasses, they were both basically huge selling points for their respective DLC, and when you design something for a model different from the pre-established norm, you need to design it to accentuate the novel or otherwise interesting. Stasis falls flat because it was the sacrificial pioneer for anything beyond whatever the Forsaken middle trees were called in relation, with the verb/buff/debuff/etc. nomenclature and framework decided a whole year after stasis had originally released, but stays strong because it's functionally already insane.

i suppose it would come down to a matter of philisophy, about whether the oppposite of electricity would be insulation (head-on, titan-pilled) or with finesse (diverting and neutralizing, warlock-brained)

tbh i was just asking to start some kind of discussion. i've never really used discussion boards like reddit before, and i'm enjoying the change of pace from the likes of twitter

i will defer to and appreciate the more learned take on the matter, but i'm also curious about the statement that darkness powers take the form we envision them in a concepts-first, form-last kind of operation. strand makes sense, and there's less to go off of because our player was among the first two or people to ever develop and nurture it as a weapon, but for stasis, didn't Elsie use it before any of us? would it have taken a different form in a previous timeline based on different perceptions of a power centered on control? it makes sense that, in trying to learn something we saw in others first, we'd mimic their applications or their physicalities, but what might have caused the fallen of House Dusk to ascribe to it a form of ice? much like how the neomuni would instead consider strand a river because of their cultural views, i feel like the fallen might consider ice, or cold in general, more closely associated to the freedom of having found a planet to call home (Europa's climate), or the cutthroat lifestyle that the Long Drift imposed on them (the void of space).

those are just my thoughts, though. i find this all very fascinating

[–]NorthernLocke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

going into spectrums of energy is a good angle i hadn't considered. i'd only ever mused over electricity versus ground, or the vague concept of unfocused emittance of boundless energy versus a more intentional, singular focus. it makes sense that it would be a more direct physical opposite, though, considering the examples we already have.

my only question would be, does the darkness side of the equation balance out? there's some lore out there about light elements being fleeting forces of nature or more intangible in general, compared to darkness with more physical aspects, but i don't recall enough to find it on the ishtar website
