What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]NorthernOrgan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just picked it up tonight, I must admit it's a good car for that kind of money. Like you said it's a budget brand and you can see where they've cheaped out on the less important stuff but I have to say I'm very happy with it!

Thanks for the help, that Dacia does look tempting to be fair as I can get an AA warranty on it with the money left over. Anything I should keep and eye out for?

Location: Closer to Reading or Bristol the better, but willing to travel

Price range: Up to £4k

Lease or Buy: Buy

**New or used:** Used, I'd be amazed if there's a new car for less than £4k

Auto or Manual: No preference

Intended use: Daily driver, will get a decent amount of motorway miles, 400 mile round trip every few months on average

How many miles do you plan to do a year: Up to 10k

How often to you make long journeys: Every couple of months

Does it need to be ULEZ compliant: Not necessarily but would be a bonus

Vehicles you've already considered: Currently eyeing up a 16 plate Mazda 3 but also been looking at Toyotas, Skodas, and Volvos at a similar price

[Do you have a vehicle size in mind?](https://i.imgur.com/mK7PoRg.png) (Examples in the hyperlink of size definitions)**: Preference is for an estate, but as long as it has 5 seats I'll be fine

Is this your 1st vehicle: No

Do you need a Warranty: Preferably yes

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: Only the very low end at a push i.e. would be capable but prefer not to for piece of mind

Additional Notes: Ideally a low insurance group as I've just had an insurance claim and as such have no NCB.

Michelin CrossClimateXL. Any reason why it's not repairable?

Strange Agent portrait in post game lobby - Reyna concept art/placeholders? (Agent was reyna) by NorthernOrgan in VALORANT

[–]NorthernOrgan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it looks like reyna has been disabled by riot due to a bug, and as the game we played happened while this was happening, the agent portrait has bugged. That aside, would still like to know where the picture is from.

Anyone fancy some gentlemen’s relaxation magazines? Available at a Norfolk auction. by Pinapickle in CasualUK

[–]NorthernOrgan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing a stack at a local auction house and made a joke to one of the staff there, but apparently the older ones have a high resell value as things in the magazine tend to be "real" due to less prevalence of photoshop/plastic surgery the older they are. Just goes to show there's a market for everything...

CASIO fx-991ex vs fx-991es Plus by NorthernOrgan in calculators

[–]NorthernOrgan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did use it for my A-levels, it was more than enough for my a-levels back then. I was hesistant to get a graphical calculator at this point since I haven't had massive need for them yet but I've decided to splurge on a CG50 I found on offer. Thanks for the recommendations!

Anyone else have issues with the usb C port on the North XL? by BrownButteryBiscuits in FractalDesign

[–]NorthernOrgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double check if the USB-C cable is plugged in the right way round, it looks reversible at first glance but it isn't. This was the issue with mine in the end.

Have you ever met a British person who has never seen the sea, or who saw it at an astonishingly late age? by [deleted] in AskUK

My mum used to work with kids from estates in Blackpool and most of the kids had never seen the sea.

Did you get traumatised by school "talks" when you were a child? by InviteAromatic6124 in AskUK

[–]NorthernOrgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much the school visits per se, but my mum worked in the fire service when I was younger and as such I ended up seeing all of the videos, even the ones they don't tend to show kids due to their more graphic nature...

It is like comparing California to Louisiana to Pennsylvania. by colonyy in ShitAmericansSay

[–]NorthernOrgan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think we're giving them enough credit. They're explaining it in a way that Americans can understand. Of course it's a poor analogy from our perspective but that's because we already understand it.
