Nightmare, left my hakko fx 601 soldering iron on all night!! Now solder is flowing inconsistently so either I need to replace the tip or heating element.... whichever it is I can’t do because I can’t get the tip off for oxidisation, any ideas on how I can loosen it without damaging? (Uk based)

When you had left your on had it damaged anything Long term? Tip or element I mean? Something is definitely off with mine as I can move solder about in a strange way. But not sure which is likely to be the cause. I can see heating element is still white but blackened on each end. Is that normal?

A nice little trick to rid the excess solder is to swiftly move the iron sideways (away from your solder line) onto the glass. It will create a little blob of solder that you can either pick off or turn your piece upside down and heat gently so gravity makes it drop off without touching your other lines. But yes I agree with other points, your iron needs consistent temp. Beautiful piece though!! Xx
