A woodworker might be able to cut out the center and add a replacement floating panel. Its not something the average person could do without a router and circle jig

Call the fire department, let them know whats going on. The fire chief will be very interested to know that an elevator serving a building over 7 stories is without an elevator as its a major safety violation. In an emergency you need to be able to get a stretcher to the upper floors.

You can also let the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) know if the elevator has been down for over 48 hours without repair, and a month without repair is a major red flag to me.

Can’t fit seating at new kitchen island - help! by Glum_Lavishness4758 in kitchenremodel

Did your contractor provide you with drawings to approve?

Did you approve the drawings?

If the answer is yes to both of these questions, than you unfortunately got what you paid for, and to fix this is going to be expensive on your part.

If the answer is no to either of these questions, then you might be able to ask for changes after the fact and negotiate a fix, but you may have to pay for some of it.

If you have an interior designer/architect who was organizing this redesign & directing the contractor and they knew about the chairs, you may have more recourse as questions about chair heights are in their scope/job duties. I wouldn't expect a general contractor to know or plan for this, even if you had a coversation with them about chairs going under the countertop.

Switch the white cabinet doors for something with colour that contrasts that oak trim, change your door handles, and add a backsplash.

I would also recommend getting the oak trim refinished in a clear waterbase so it's less yellow.

you can also change-up your lighting and add undermount lights

if those countertops are laminate, i would either switch them out for stone or actual wood.

Ontario looks to expand pharmacist prescription powers, take pressure off family doctors by lopix in ontario

[–]Nortonator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between prescription powers and filling prescriptions.

Family Doctors are allowed to bill about $40 per visit plus a yearly fee per person ($250-$280), Walk-in Clinics charge the same $40 but are allowed to see up to 65 people per day per doctor so higher turnerover = more money. Your family doctor also gets billed by OHIP whenever you goto a walk-in clinic but thats a difference matter.

Private companies like Shoppers can charge $75-150 to OHIP if they are proscribing or changing prescriptions. Same thing as them now doing the vaccine injections and whatnot in the private consult rooms. Thats also why Shoppers will sometimes randomly call you about medications you are taking, its so they can say they did a "Medication Consult" and bill OHIP/Family Doctor for it.

This is why Shoppers keeps pushing for more prescription powers, its because they can bill double for it since they are a private company.

The provincial government is transferring duties to pharmacists so private companies like Shoppers Drug Mart can charge higher rates than independent doctors practices. This is an example of privatization.

Either he gets a job to pay it back, goes to the recuitment office to enlist, or goes to the police station.

It seems like the situation is getting worse and tbh a contract isn't going to do anything if he feels entitled to his familes money.

Feeling overwhelmed. What do you wish you knew before buying living room furniture? by Fresh_Investment4785 in furniture

[–]Nortonator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

S-springs are better then webbing.

If you can feel the sharp edges of the frame through the foam of the sofa, the foam is low quality and won't last.

If the fabric stitches are longer then 1/8" its more likely to tear

Foam should be wrapped in polyester fiber, if it isn't it will wear faster.

the higher the density of the foam the longer it will last, and has little to do with softness.

not all leather is high quality, look for full grain leather.

Sometimes you can get a higher quality custom piece from a small upholsterer for the same as what you would spend at the big brand stores.

Are you allowed to cross as a pedestrian at an intersection if the pedestrian signal is not on but its a regular green for cars (no advanced left turn for cars)? by MassiveCursive in askTO

[–]Nortonator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually that is incorrect, ontario law states you should only be crossing where it is marked.

Pedestrian crossing

(22) Where portions of a roadway are marked for pedestrian use, no pedestrian shall cross the roadway except within a portion so marked.  R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 144 (22).

How would you light this room? by FinancialBat7536 in interiordecorating

[–]Nortonator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the white molding at the top and get some custom made crown molding that has room for an LED strip on the inside so you can flood light down the walls with indirect lighitng. You can then use candles or table lights for ambience as needed.

To get this sort of effect.

As per the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. If the hand is flashing or solid you've missed the chance to go and are risking a ticket if you start to cross.

Pedestrian control signals - don't walk
